Dacorum Council for Voluntary Service (working name Community Action Dacorum) was founded in 1947 and has the aim of supporting other community groups to develop and enabling individuals (from a range of target groups) to improve their quality of life and aspirations. This is delivered through provision of services at a local and European level.At a local level we provide:1) Support to other community groups - provision of training, funding advice, payroll services, hire of equipment, print shop, DBS checks, information services and networking meetings2) Community Transport - 12 minibuses hired to community groups, social car scheme to support older people without transport and shopping trips / outings for older people3) Adult Learning - provide a range of courses for adults (aged 19+) in work related and leisure subjects (each year 500+ learners)4) Interpreting and Translation Service - provide interpreters to local public sector agencies (13,000+ assignments pa) and training provider for students to sit the Diploma in Public Service Interpreting5) Corporate Social Responsibility - local initiative (Connect Dacorum) to bring the public, private and not for profit sectors together in networking meetings and school / community based projects / activities for mutual benefit. In essence getting local businesses to do good things in the local community6) Radio Dacorum - internet based community radio station promoting positive news in the local area - 60 volunteer presenters and range of guests / bands playing in the studio7) Repair Shed - aimed at addressing social isolation in older men through coming together in sessions to make, mend and repair goods, with focus on reuse of materials - 20+ volunteers at sessions8) Shopmobility - providing service in Hemel Hempstead Town Centre to assist people with mobility difficulties to access the shops - 8,000+ hires pa9) European Projects - active engagement in range of projects funded through LLP, Erasmus+, Europe for Citizens etc. Current projects include language learning, use of technology, career advice for young people, migration, supporting older people with employment skills and EVS. We regularly participate in Erasmus+ KA1 Training Courses to build both our capacity and other local stakeholdersWe have an annual turnover of £1.7 million and a staff team of 35 members and a total of 140 volunteers regularly supporting our activities. Our income derives from a range of funding sources and we hold as Quality Standards Investors in People, Investors in Diversity, Matrix and ISO 9001.
