Santa Casa da Misericordia de Amarante is an institution that host elderly people and develops social support activities for the elderly or others at risk of losing independence and / or autonomy, providing food, health care, hygiene and comfort, encouraging socializing, entertainment and leisure activities of users. The objectives of this institution are the following:- Welcoming the elderly and others whose social, familiar, economic and / or health does not allow them to remain in their usual way of life;- Provide them with permanent housing and services and assure the appropriate care to meet their needs, with a view to safeguarding its essential autonomy and cooperate in promoting dignity, quality of life and health of individuals, families and communities;- Provide temporary housing as a form of family support;- Create conditions to preserve and encourage inter-family relations.The services and activities are the following:- Accommodation and Food, consisting of five meals a day;- Care hygiene and personal comfort;- Medical and nursing treatment of personal clothing, daily cleaning of rooms;- Promoting sociocultural activities, recreational and occupational.The main activity places of SCMA are:- Lar Conselheiro António Cândido (city centre);- Estância Nossa Senhora da Piedade (nearby Amarante).The main target groups are:- elderly people;- families and local community (awareness).
