IBIS is a registered non-profit association for research, documentation, education and consulting which was founded in 1994. It is a local organisation that has also gained importance beyond the region by cooperation and networking with other organisations. IBIS is involved in the equal rights of migrants. Its public relations are targeted at making people aware of an intercultural cohabitation. The association offers educational facilities to support multipliers who work with children and young people to deal with racism and migration. As a point of contact for private persons as well as for public institutions IBIS grants exchange and consulting, eg for people seeking political asylum. Being a member of the “Informationsverbund Asyl” IBIS provides solicitors and consulting agencies with the relevant laws and verdicts relating to the rights of foreigners and people seeking political asylum as well as with the reports of the Federal Lands.Furthermore IBIS carries through trainings in intercultural competences as well as projects to support juvenile immigrants whereby cooperating with independent youth organizations, migrants´ associations and schools.Among other things, IBIS offers remedial education (private tutoring) mainly for students with migration backgrounds. IBIS lends books and other work material for projects with children and young people. For migrants, IBIS also offers integration courses (German courses) and literacy courses. During the courses, childcare is also available. A part of IBIS is an antidiscrimination office, which in cases of discrimination supports and informs in accordance to the General Equal Treatment Act (AGG). It also works in public relations and lobbying against discrimination. IBIS is certified to ISO 9000 for its educational and informational work. In 2009, IBIS opened a café as an intercultural meeting point in Oldenburg, which is open daily. It not only serves as a point of contact for migrants and refugees in Oldenburg, but also as a place for informational and cultural events. IBIS cooperates with partner organizations in various other European countries.

IBIS - Interkulturelle Arbeitsstätte für Forschung, Dokumentation, Bildung und Beratung e.V. ist ein gemeinnütziger Verein, der 1994 gegründet wurde. Es handelt sich um eine lokale Organisation, die durch Kooperation und Vernetzung mit anderen Initiativen z.T. auch überregionale Bedeutung hat. IBIS setzt sich für ein gleichberechtigtes Miteinander von Migrant_innen und Nicht-Migrant_innen ein. Die Öffentlichkeitsarbeit von IBIS will die Bevölkerung für Themen des interkulturellen Zusammenlebens sensibilisieren. Der Verein unterstützt mit Bildungsangeboten Multiplikator_innen der Kinder- und Jugendarbeit beim Umgang mit Rassismus und Migration. Als Anlaufstelle für private Personen und öffentliche Institutionen ist IBIS beratend und vermittelnd tätig. So bietet IBIS Beratung in Asylverfahren an. Als Partner des Informationsverbundes Asyl versorgt der Verein Rechtsanwält_innen und Beratungsstellen mit relevanten Gesetzen und Urteilen des Ausländer- und Asylrechts und mit Länderberichten. IBIS bietet Fortbildungen zur interkulturellen Kompetenz und Bildungsangebote für Multiplikator_innen in der interkulturellen Arbeit an. IBIS führt Projekte zur Förderung jugendlicher Migrant_innen durch und kooperiert dabei mit Einrichtungen der offenen Jugendarbeit, Migrant_innenorganisationen und Schulen.
Unter anderem bietet IBIS Lernförderung (Nachhilfe) vor allem für Schüler_innen mit Migrationshintergrund an. Für Projekte mit Kindern und Jugendlichen verleiht IBIS Bücher und Arbeitsmaterialien. IBIS bietet Integrationskurse (Deutschkurse) und Alphabetisierungskurse für Zuwander_innen an - auch mit Kinderbetreuung während der Kurszeiten.
Zu IBIS gehört auch die Antidiskriminierungsstelle, die in Diskriminierungsfällen nach dem Allgemeinen Gleichbehandlungsgesetz unterstützt und berät und durch Öffentlichkeits- und Lobbyarbeit für Diskriminierung sensibilisiert. Für seine Bildungs- und Beratungstätigkeit ist IBIS nach DIN EN ISO 9000 zertifiziert. 2009 hat IBIS ein täglich geöffnetes Café als interkulturellen Treffpunkt in Oldenburg eröffnet. Das Café dient nicht nur als Anlaufstelle für Migrant_innen und Flüchtlinge in Oldenburg, sondern auch als Veranstaltungsort für Informations- und Kulturveranstaltungen. IBIS arbeitet mit Partnerorganisationen in verschiedenen europäischen Ländern zusammen.
