The World Esperanto Youth Organization (TEJO) is a global youth organisation, created in 1938 and since then we are committed to creating more just, equal and inclusive societies. With around 50 member organisations and with thousands of young members in Europe, Asia, Africa and America, we have been striving to help the youth play an active role in building a sustainable, inclusive, international, understanding and rights-based society through the Esperanto movement and culture. We have developed an expertise when it comes to language diversity, cultural richness and human rights of language minorities. At the same time, we strongly believe that gender equality and inclusion in general are vital for ensuring the rights of all persons and to achieve truly sustainable development. We organise many international activities each year around the world, physical and online, for young Esperanto speakers and not only.
Our target group is young people and we are a youth organisation entirely youth-led, organising international activities by, with and for young people around the globe. We have an international board elected every year, composed by young people from all around the world and composed by young people up to 35 years old. The highest decision-making body of our organisation is the Committee which meets several times annually to discuss the direction of the organisation, adopt strategic documents and decisions, and elect the new TEJO board every year. The organisation’s work is supported by an international secretariat, composed by young professionals who work full-time or part-time for the organisation. Additionally, our head office is located in Rotterdam, Netherlands, since TEJO is based and registered there. However, our activities take place either as residential or as online activities all around the world either by TEJO or by our member organisations in order to ensure the outreach of the organisation both in the international and local level and to provide equal opportunities and access to young people, independently of their social, economic, cultural or political background.
