Kuruluşun tanımı

The European Foundation of Human Rights (EFHR) is an non-governmental organization actively operating in Lithuania since 2010. The aim of our activities is to raise people awareness on the human rights, tolerance, equality, racism, discrimination, peace culture, nationalism and intercultural dialogue. Since we work also on legal grounds, offering free legal aid and advice, the mission of our activities is to inform wide circles of citizens on national and international level of their rights and freedoms that are protected by national and international legal system. One of our principles is to offer a free legal advice to anyone who became a victim of discrimination and human rights abuses in the public or private sphere, or who is a witness of those abuses. Our legal aid can provide: consultations, drawing up legal documents and process of a case in the court or other institution as well.

To achieve objectives of our activities we are implementing activities such us spreading the informational campaign using both traditional methods (preparing reports, conferences, press releases, leaflets etc.) and modern methods of getting to the people (performances, using social media for promotion, screening documentaries and organizing social debates). We also prepare educational campaign, which are based on bringing non-formal education into schools, local communities and universities - free human rights workshops, lectures (on topics such as discrimination, human rights and functioning of NGOs) and study sessions facilitated by professors, scholars and experienced lawyers. They are intended for teachers, school pupils, lawyers and other interested persons.

EFHR prepares and distributes leaflets and other publications on human rights (minorities, workers, language groups etc.), which are addressed also to persons without legal proficiency. Information we provide is up-to-date, based on the examples of human rights and abuses with detailed instruction explaining the possible way of reacting when being a victim or a witness of discrimination.

EFHR is promoting the non-hate speech movement, thus actively monitors media and cyberspace. In order to promote a tolerant and peaceful society. According to the criminal code, each comment or statement publicized on an Internet forum that openly incites hatred and discrimination against a particular group of people is forbidden and is the subject to penalty. Thus, EFHR is scanning the Internet, media and public life looking for manifestations of hate speech and taking legal steps afterwards.
