Der Verein Alternatives Jugendzentrum e.V. wurde 1990 von Jugendlichen mit dem Ziel gegründet, in einem öffentlich anerkannten und akzeptierten Rahmen, ihre sozialen und kulturellen Vorstellungen zu verwirklichen, zu leben und weiterzuentwickeln. Heute verfügt der Verein über ein geräumiges Jugendzentrum mit einer nutzbaren Fläche von ca. 1600 qm, über das mit der Stadt Chemnitz ein Erbpachtvertrag für dreißig Jahre abgeschlossen werden konnte. Als anerkannter freier Träger der Jugendhilfe seit 1992 sind wir in Bezug auf die soziale und kulturelle Arbeit mit Jugendlichen ein gefragter Partner. Eine Vielzahl von Projekten konnte durch den Verein realisiert werden. Die jährliche Besucher:innenzahl von ca. 20.000 Gästen bestätigt dabei unseren Versuch, ein umfassendes kinder- und jugendgemäßes Angebot mit hoher inhaltlicher Qualität zu unterbreiten. Er verfügt über fünf ständige kommunal finanzierte Projekte (offene Kinder- und Jugendarbeit/außerschulische Jugendbildung, Jugendwohnen "Basis", Skate-,Inline- & BMX-Halle "Druckbude", Mobile Jugendarbeit Innenstadt). Der Verein arbeitet auch mit spezifischen Zielgruppen, zu denen das reguläre Jugendhilfesystem nur einen schlechten Zugang hat. Dazu zählen Jugendliche in multiplen sozialen und bildungsbezogenen Problemlagen, jugend- und subkulturell orientierte junge Menschen etc. Im Bereich der Außerschulischen Jugendbildung, der in den vergangenen Jahren sukzessive ausgebaut wurde, werden Lernprozesse in verschiedenen Bereichen gefördert. In diesem Zusammenhang werden Projekttage für Schüler-, Studentinnen- und andere Jugendgruppen angeboten sowie Workshops und Kurse in den Bereichen politische Bildung, Kunst, Musik, Sport und Soziokultur durchgeführt. Besonderer Schwerpunkt liegen im Bereich der politischen, ökologischen, interkulturellen und internationalen Jugendbildungsarbeit. Neben den sozialpädagogischen Projekten ist der Verein überregional bekannt für seinen Kultur- und Konzertbetrieb. Den Grundsätzen des Vereins entsprechend sind alle Angebote nach basisdemokratischen Prinzipien antirassistisch, antisexistisch, inklusiv und partizipativ ausgerichtet.

The association Alternatives Jugendzentrum e.V. was founded in 1990 by young people with the aim of realizing, living and developing their social and cultural ideas in a publicly recognized and accepted framework. Today the association has a spacious youth center with a usable area of approx. 1600 square meters, over which a long lease agreement for thirty years could be concluded with the city of Chemnitz. As a recognized independent youth welfare agency since 1992, we are a sought-after partner in terms of social and cultural work with young people. The association was able to realize a large number of projects. The annual number of visitors of approx. 20,000 guests confirms our attempt to present a comprehensive range of offers suitable for children and young people with high quality content. It has five permanent, locally financed projects (open child and youth work / extracurricular youth education, youth living "Basis", skate, inline & BMX hall "Druckbude", mobile youth work in the city center). The association also works with specific target groups to which the regular youth welfare system has poor access. These include young people in multiple social and educational problem areas, youth and subculture-oriented young people, etc.
In the field of extracurricular youth education, which has been gradually expanded in recent years, learning processes are promoted in various areas. In this context, project days are offered for schoolchildren, student groups and other youth groups as well as workshops and courses in the fields of political education, art, music, sport and socioculture. Special emphasis is placed on political, ecological, intercultural and international youth education work. In addition to the socio-educational projects, the association is known nationwide for its cultural and concert activities. In accordance with the principles of the association, all offers are anti-racist, anti-sexist, inclusive and participative based on grassroots democratic principles.
