Dom na Krasu is a public institution. Established to improve the quality of life for people affected by mental illness. It provides institutional care for adults with mental health problem. History of our place go back to the 20th century. The big main building in Dutovlje was first spa, than primary school and later retirement home. Later in 1991 became place for mentaly ill person.

We’ve come a long way since those early days when we were close section. We’re now one of the largest providers of accommodations in Slovenia for people who are not able to live independent life due their mental illness. Dom na Krasu operates in different locations. We offer services to more than one hundred residents in main building in Dutovlje. Where work differs from dislocated units in Postojna, Dutovlje and Sežana where life is organized in a such a way that residents experience normal way of life in order to preserve and gain new knowledge and skills and to be encouraged to take responsibility for their life choices and decisions. In dislocated units activities are based primarily on improving the quality of life. This is their home. In Dutovlje life of residents in institution looks more hard and difficult but employees and volunteers with their activities rise quality of daily routine.

In accordance with the wishes, needs and possibilities of the residant, we carry out psychosocial rehabilitation programs, which we formulate in the framework of an individual plan. In the individual plan, the occupant sets the goals that he wants to achieve during his or her stay in the institution or a residential group. We strive to ensure that each occupant expresses and maintains its abilities to freely choose and assume responsibility for its decisions and actions in accordance with its capabilities and rights.

We also regularly carry out additional activities in the external environment which helps to make the residants as much as possible members of the community. The implementation of activities in dislocated units differs from the activities in the building in Dutovlje, mainly due to the large number of users. Together with our residants, events are also attended by users of other associations.
We regularly perform various creative workshops that are intended for sale or gifts on special occasions and projects. For example the New Year's greeting cards, which we have dedicated to our families, relatives, friends, societies and institutions in the surrounding area. Dressmaking workshops, recreational walkshops, social games, greetings workshops, Christmas craft workshops, greeting card making workshop and culinary workshops are also regularly carried out.

According to events in the local community we organize monthly various activities in the dislocated units for example:
- in the month of fire safety we organized a tour of a fire station and a presentation of the firefighters,
- we used the preparations for the Easter holidays to prepare two exhibitions on a holiday theme,
- during the spring months we paid a lot of attention to the movement and outdoor sports activities,
- summer swimming at sea, which enable the residents to interact with each other and even more,
- on the day of mental health, in agreement with the Municipality Postojna and the participation of the users of VEZI and ŠENT DC Postojna, we have traditionally a presentation and sales stand in the city center,
- December is always festive, beginning in November with the production of decorations from recycled materials for the traditional decorating of the holiday tree on the main square and the lighting of the lights that follow to Miklavževo.
For the festive atmosphere, we have a common pre-holiday gathering with dance party, together with the related associations VEZI and ŠENT.

Throughout the year, we follow the invitations and respond to municipal events, both in the municipality of Sežana and Dutovlje and Postojna. Also, in the light of our expressed interests, we always respond to different invitations from other societies and institutions in a narrower and wider environment.

Our Vision is that we work towards a society that values everyone with mental health problems and making recovery possible. Our goal is to bring more effective professional treatment and compassionate care to everyone affected by mental illness.
Our work is that our residents improve confidence in communicating with other people such as family members, friends and casual encounters. That they increase capacity of managing their mental illness and all the process of recovery. To increase sense of being supported consistently and with continuity while living with mental illness, to feel less distressed or despairing, to reduce loneliness and isolation. We believe that our work is deeply valuable and important. We can honestly see the integrity of the work and the value that it has for people who need us and our support.
