Stiftelsen Funka has been founded in the 2006 by the company Funka Nu AB. Funka was started in the 1990s as a joint, non-profit initiative among all disability organisations in Sweden. The knowledge, staff and technology of the non-profit was turned into a privately-owned company in 2000. Today, Funka is a market leader in the field of accessibility and enjoys a close relationship to end user organisations. Forming the foundation - Stiftelsen Funka, allows the company to close the circle and thus, by non-profit activities, keep strengthening the influence of people with disabilities over their own lives. The Foundation believes in empowerment and that a well-informed consumer can make a big difference.
The Foundation is a business enterprise and is financed through the sale of services, subscriptions, advertisements etc. within the framework of the Foundation's activities, mainly through the Funka Portal. In addition, the Foundation is funded through grants from companies, authorities, organizations and private individuals who wish to contribute to strengthening the rights of people with disabilities.
The Foundation is a politically and religiously independent organization led by the board and cooperates with other parties. The Foundation is registered at and is under the supervision of the county administrative board in Stockholm County.
