WeWorld-GVC Onlus is an international organisation born from the merger of WeWorld Onlus (established in Milan in 1999) and GVC Onlus, (established in Bologna in 1971) which since December 1st 2018 have joined forces to increase the impact of their development cooperation and humanitarian aid projects. The aim of the organisation is to implement humanitarian aid and development projects against poverty and inequality, protecting the most vulnerable communities and defending human, social and environmental rights, as well as promoting awareness campaigns that can influence public opinion, to expand a culture of human rights, peace and solidarity.
WeWorld-GVC Onlus projects in 27 countries in the world aim to protect children and women’s rights, guaranteeing access to education, empowering young people, promoting gender equality and women’s rights, and fighting violence against women, in collaboration with Italian and European Institutions, domestic agencies and United Nation agencies, in the sphere of development cooperation, humanitarian aid, international volunteering and global citizenship education. WeWorld-GVC Onlus as international organisation acts as a point of reference for players in international cooperation in order to achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals more effectively. The international organisation promotes synergy among different local and international players to develop integrated and far-reaching projects that, starting from an emergency, can sustain development programs consistent with respect for human rights.
WeWorld-GVC projects are targeting mainly women and children, who represent 85% of the beneficiaries, ensuring them the right to education, promoting their participation and gender equality and fighting against violence against women. Target groups are also young people, vulnerable groups and actors of change in every community where WeWorld-GVC operates. WeWorld-GVC collaborates with schools, social cooperatives and centres for education and training in the implementation of youth exchanges, trainings and workshops, volunteering activities.
WeWorld-GVC implements regular activities in the following areas: human rights (gender equality, prevention and combating violence against children and women, migration), humanitarian aid (prevention, emergency relief and rehabilitation), food security, access to water, health and hygiene, education, global citizenship education, quality teaching and international volunteering. Relevant experience is related to international volunteering actions, mainly related to the European Programme EU Aid Volunteers: WeWorld-GVC has been the Italian leading organisation of activities implemented under this EU Programme, leaded 9 EU Aid Volunteers (EUAV) projects and implemented 13 EUAV projects as a partner. Up to now, WeWorld-GVC has involved 193 EU Aid Volunteers in different countries in the world in humanitarian actions. Both the Italian HQ and local WeWorld-GVC offices in 22 countries in the world have been certified respectively as sending and hosting organisations under the EU Aid Volunteers Programme. Activities are implemented following the principle of non-discrimination: development cooperation projects support the capacities of any individual and any community and enhancing the participation of local communities.
