The Maison Familiale Rurale in Sainte Florine was created in 1968. It is an association managed by a board of directors of about 20 members composed of students’ parents, tutors and professionals. It is an alternance training centre under contract with the Ministry of Agriculture.

The MFR'S ambition is not only to teach abilities and ways of being; they also aim at teaching what citizenship is and a sense of togetherness.

The trainings are:4ème/3ème (UK :year 9 and 10)
Vocational A level Aid and Support to Rural Residents
Adult Education in partnership with the Work Agency and the Region Auvergne Rhône Alpes such as home help and auxiliary nurses and nursery assistants.

The Maison Familiale also provides meals for the children of the public school of Sainte-Florine in partnership with the City council.

The MFR has got 120 beds.It offers a communal kitchen and during the periods without students(weekends and holidays)it accomodates tourist groups and events.

Our values are : respect and responsibility, success and fulfillment, listening, citizenship and eco-responsible behavior, solidarity and openness to others and the world.We believe that the young ones will gain in self confidence through work experience and mobility.Autonomy is an important value too.

Our association is based on the group cohesion, mutual assistance at work and raising our students' awareness of different causes by being actors of their environment.
knowing their local territory( up to the international level) the people we are going to work with and their companies as well as being invested in the various MFR's projects is crucial to achieve our goals.
The school ensures the pupils full boarding, and organises lots of collective activities so that everyone works with one another. It also tries to open minds to cultural life thanks to activities led during the day or the evening, and prepares youngsters and adults to a successful integration into society in which they can find a place and take responsibilities.

The Maison Familiale Rurale accomodates around 120 students in the training course system that is to say 50% of the time spent in the company and 50% of the time spent at school as well as trainees in adult education.Training at the same time in the company and at school, linkling theory with practise is the pedagogy that has been developped by the MFRs for 80 years and the young ones really have good job adaptabilty and opportunities .The instructors are part of an education and training project led by the MFR of Sainte Florine.

A Maison Familiale Rurale works in the area where it has been set up. The rooms are set up in such a way that everyone can feel comfortable and have relationships in a family atmosphere though there are some demanding rules regarding education in general. There is a limited number of pupils or adults at the Maison Familiale Rurale each week. So the team of instructors is limited as well.They stay all day long at the Maison Familiale Rurale. They have various functions: they favour relationships in the group, they teach, they take an active part in the education aim while supporting each youngster's or trainee project.
They are qualified to implement the alternate training system and they know very well the Maison Familiale Rurale's environment, youngsters, their families and the training managers.

They get involved in the development of the area where the Maison Familiale Rurale has started its activities.It is important that they know the actors of the local,social and solidarity economy.
In the teaching team,There is a classrom assistant who helps students with special needs and contributes to individualized support.
There is also a person in charge of additional learning support. She has got a long experience as a social worker for disabled people, she is skilled and she has got diploma in psychology. Any student at The MFR, with a specific learning difficulty, such as dyslexia, or a disability is entitled to additional support with their learning. The student is usually referred to MDPH by the tutor, but self referrals can be made, after an initial screening.The person in charge of the boarding is an animator and takes part in the project too.

The MFR focuses on developing an international outlook by offering different trips and work stays in France and abroad that raise young people’s awareness to sustainable development and openess to the world.The three -week professional work placement abroad has been going ever since 2005.

This project takes place thanks to a grouped Erasmus +programm since 2014 and we received an Erasmus + good practise logo in 2018.It took place in the south of England and nowadays in Brussels in Belgium .The MFR is involved in the twin city comittee in Sainte Florine and is an host organisation when the Germans come to France.The city is also in contact with many European countries through the Etwining network.
