High School No. 1 is a co-educational secondary school run by the city of Wrocław. As of 2022, it boasts 823 students aged 15 through 19 (target group). An heir to the girls' school 'Viktoriaschule' built in 1907 it is Wrocław's oldest secondary school as it has been in operation uninterruptedly since September 1945.
Its objectives and main activities include:
- enabling the acquisition of knowledge and skills through the delivery of general education subject programmes including three subjects in the extended range (always including English);
- creating conditions for pupils to learn foreign languages taking into account their level of linguistic ability (division into groups, participation in international projects, exchanges, workshops, competitions, etc.);
- ensuring optimal learning conditions (laboratories, teaching aids);
- developing students' talents and interests (projects, film education, museum activities, sports activities, excursions, volunteering); volunteering was recognized by a distinction award at the 28th National Student Council Competition in June 2022;
- undertaking cooperation with educational, scientific and cultural institutions (collaboration with universities: Wroclaw University, Wroclaw University of Environmental and Life Sciences, Wroclaw University of Technology, Wroclaw School of Banking (WSB), as well as the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN)) manifesting itself inter alia in participation in laboratory classes and lectures.
