Bakketun Folkehøgskole is a norwegian Folk High School, founded in 1915. The main aim of folk high schools is life
enlightenment, public education and civic learning. Our mandate is to strenghten the students democratic competences.
Folk High Schools are based on non-formal learning education principles. A very distinctive feature of folk high schools is
their freedom. There are no fixed curriculum, grades or exams. The folk high schools are free to design their educational
practice and to plan the content of courses and activities based on the individual schools core values.
Schools are usually nine month boarding school, august - may. The schools are open for everyone and the students are
usually 19-25 years old. In Norway there are 86 Folk High Schools, all with different structure and courses.
At Bakketun Folk High School our courses are about sports, creativity and engagement. The main courses are extreme
sport, outdoor education, van life, music production, music/band, theatre, art and global perspectives. We also have
common classes and a variety of elective classes.
Bakketun Folkehøgskole is located in Verdal, Trøndelag county in the middle part of Norway.
