Akhmeta Local Action Group (LAG) is a local organization operating in the Akhmeta municipality. The organization is founded on the LEADER approach, a rural development method that uses Local Action Groups (LAGs) to implement bottom-up strategies. LAGs are partnerships of public, private, and civil-society stakeholders from a specific local area. Their key roles include creating the strategy, building capacity, and appraising and selecting projects for funding. Its work is based on volunteer activities. The aim of the organization is supporting the social and economic development of Akhmeta municipality, promoting social inclusion, and reducing poverty in rural areas. Akhmeta is a multi-ethnic and multicultural municipality with a population of 26,500 people, among which ethnically Kist (north Caucasian ethnic group), Ossetian, and eco-migrants. Our organisation’s target groups are: youth from Akhmeta municipality, people representing minorities, people with disabilities, eco-migrants, and people with social, economic, and infrastructural needs. The main activities of Akhmeta Local Action Group include working on the existing challenges in Akhmeta municipality, identifying the necessary resources, mediating between donors and the local population for project funding through selection, and conducting follow-up monitoring of funded projects, as well as implementing joint projects with local and international organizations.
