Help for the homeless - providing food and social activities

Long time ago "Betanija" started as a simple dinning place for those in need, but since it has evolved to so much more. Social center now welcomes poor and homeless people for most of the day and invites them to spend their time purposefully in peaceful, welcoming environment, occupy themselves with a wide arrange of activities. Workshops, dance and movie evenings, praying groups, discussions, celebrations and various other events are organized here on a regular basis. The volunteers main task will be helping before and during lunch - accepting and sorting donated food, preparing and distributing meals for the homeless, tidying up afterwards. On other hours there are a lot of opportunities to do more social work - spend time with people, organise events, workshops, etc. A lot depends on a volunteer himself - a more bold volunteer can spend more time with people, someone else can concentrate on more regular tasks. There's plenty to do for everyone :)

Akkomodazzjoni, ikel u arranġamenti tat-trasport

Volunteer will be provided lunch at his workplace and monthly food money. Daily commute and other necessary transport expenses will be covered. Accommodation will be found according to our budget and volunteers needs - volunteer can expect to at least live in a separate room, provided with all necessary utilities (fridge, oven, etc.) hopefully not to far away from a city center. A fair amount of pocket money will be given each month.

Taħriġ matul il-proġett

Volunteer will have to attend 60 hour Lithuanian language course. There will be two training courses scheduled during the volunteering period. A 3-day training at the beginning of volunteers term and similar but slightly longer mid-term training. These courses are meant for volunteers to understand how the project works, to set goals for their skill development during the project, self-evaluate their progress. At the end of project every volunteer will be provided with Youthpass certificate to acknowledge their developed skills.

Profil tal-voluntier

We are looking for volunteers who find joy in helping other people. Most importantly we want you to be committed to your mission and carry out your daily tasks responsibly, but we don't require any specific set of skills - as it was mentioned above, different people can play different quite roles in our center. Being easy to make friends with is great, but being hardworking is also a very positive feature. It would be a great advantage if volunteer spoke Russian - as most visitors in the center speak Lithuanian or Russian. Otherwise, being willing to learn Lithuanian is just as good.
