DiscoverEU Meet up, Helsinki

Craving for some adventure? Welcome to taste the summer in Finland, the country of nature, heavy-metal, and happy people speaking a language not understandable at all, but luckily most of us today are also available in English.

This spectacular Meet up takes place in Helsinki, the charming, compact, and safe seaside capital of Finland, famous for being a year-round lively city with a one-of-a-kind public sauna culture. Enough of praise? We Finns don’t really brag much, but believe it or not, many have ended up loving it. Come see yourself! 😉

Participants to the Meet up are accommodated for three nights in mixed dormitories at a local hostel. Three breakfasts, two lunches and three dinners are also included, as well as all the activities and a two-days ticket for public transportation in Helsinki. Indeed, you read all that right, free accommodation, free food, free activities and free public transportation tickets! 

You only must take care of your travels to Helsinki and personal insurance coverages. We are located quite on the edge of the European Union, separated from our neighbors Sweden and Estonia by the Baltic Sea, but taking one of the many ferries between these countries to cross the sea is already something to experience.

The program for the Meet up takes place from Wednesday evening 7th to Saturday morning 10th of August. It promotes nonformal and informal learning and includes:

• Exploring the city, including the super cool central library and community space Oodi
• Visiting the world heritage site Suomenlinna Sea Fortress
• Sweating in one of the many saunas of the city
• Familiarizing with the Finnish culture and cuisine
• Getting to know new friends from across Europe

There is room for a maximum of 16 participants. The event is aimed for those travelling with their DiscoverEU pass on the time of the Meet up, or if you are a former DiscoverEU traveler and now a DiscoverEU ambassador from Finland.

Participants will be selected based on the order of registrations, and everyone who signed up will be informed on the results latest in June. Detailed program will be sent to the selected participants. 

Please let us know through the registration form if you have any special needs that should be considered. The Meet up follows the so-called safer space principles; aiming to create a space free of discrimination, harassment, and bullying.
