Balkan folk dances in Dublin - Students Night

You are curious about Balkan folk dances and culture, or you would just like to learn something new, or surprise someone with an unusual gift? Balkan folk dances are chain dances with repetitive steps where no partner is required.

This evening is dedicated to students. I know there are a number of student societies who are interested in Eastern european culture - this is your time to have a special evening. You will not only hear my Balkan accent (preserved for more than 15 years in Ireland) but taste some specials from "The East" (well, Europe only).

Folk dances were performed in the past by young people as a form of entertainment (along with other functions of the dances). This is your chance to try some rhythmic movements in mixed (male/female) chains.

What to expect in the class:

• Basic exercises and music for warm up.
• Break down and practise some basic steps / combinations.
• Learn a few dances - some are with very easy combinations, others might be a bit more complicated. You can participate as you wish.
  
  The evening will continue with social dance part (about 30 min).:
• We can practise some of the dances without detailed explanations.
• Socialise or learn more advanced dances .
• Of course, taste some bread with liutenitsa and feta cheese, and some wine.

What to wear:

Please bring a clean pair of soft shoes that you will use only in the studio (trainers are ok, or others that are not with hard sole. They don't have to be special dance shoes). Dancing barefoot or with socks is not suitable.
