Youth Policy Dialogue with EVP Virkkunen at the Digital Summit
The Digital Summit in Gdansk (16-18 June 2025) will be the perfect scene for a group of international students and young Europeans to discuss the impact of social media and technologies on their lives. They will share their thoughts with Executive Vice-President and Commissioner for Tech Sovereignty, Security and Democracy Henna Virkkunen. Following three days of insightful exchanges on the evolution of the online world, it will be young people’s turn to delve into the challenges and opportunities that new technologies offer.
This dialogue will build on the previous discussions that EVP Virkkunen hosted at Aalto University in Espoo last March. The conversations will revolve around three important topics that concern young people’s lives online. As the event will coincide with the International Day for Countering Hate Speech, the participants will have the opportunity to discuss the role of platforms and public institutions in this important and timely issue. Social media presence and the evolution of online platforms will also be a topic of debate, alongside AI, disinformation and deepfakes, and the promotion of the ethical use of AI in the EU.
The outcomes of the dialogue will inform EVP Virkkunen on the views and priorities of this new generation. A unique opportunity for young people to voice their thoughts and hopes for the future.
