In light of the 2022 European Year of Youth, the EDD Young Leaders programme will ensure that EU policies take youth into account by involving them in policy-making discussions. 11 young leaders of the Young Leaders programme will participate in the European Development Days (EDD) and influence decision-making by sharing their views and experiences with Heads of State or government, human rights activists, business and industry leaders, policymakers, entrepreneurs, representatives from non-governmental organisations and academics during the forum's high-level panels.

This year’s EDD on the overall theme of 'Global Gateway: building sustainable partnerships for a connected world' will host 90+ sessions, 90+ projects and numerous special events. Each EDD Young Leader is an expert of one of the 11 EDD topics that explore the five Global Gateway themes:

  • digital
  • climate and energy
  • transport
  • health
  • education and research

Commissioner for International Partnerships, Jutta Urpilainen, said: “On this European Year of Youth, I look forward to meet the Young Leaders who will join us for the 2022 European Development Days. Every year, this programme ensure a meaningful participation of youth in high-level debate shaping our policies. This year, the Young Leaders will contribute to further enriching the roll-out of our Global Gateway strategy, the EU’s green, smart and inclusive positive offer to partner countries for sustainable investment. We need the young people to help us shape our global efforts for stronger partnerships:    they are the world’s change makers.”
