Over Grenzen vzw is an association that organises peace and remembrance education projects for young people and adults. It aims to link the past and the present in order to promote a culture of peace and non-violence. The association uses the Youth Meeting Centre as a base for its activities, both as a hostel and as an educational centre. As the YMC is located next to the German military cemetery of Lommel and is thus connected to the German War Grave Commission, it also supports the (youth) work and educational vision of this organisation. Across Borders Association has no economic, political or religious aims and is politically neutral. The most important activity is the preparation and implementation of new projects, such as the International Red Hand Day, youth exchanges, the German Memorial Day, art exhibitions, the production of historical information brochures, etc.
Alloggio, vitto e trasporto
In our accommodation you will have your own room with your own bathroom. There will be a small kitchenette with fridge for your personal use. You will have the opportunity to eat with the group or cook your own meals. Most of the time there will be leftovers from the kitchen that you can take with you. You can also cook for yourself. You will be given a bicycle for transport. You can also use the local bus service which stops 200 metres from the house. The train station is 3km from the house. A train ticket with 10 rides is provided.
Formazione durante l'attività
You can do an online language course, but we offer an extra language course at the Volksuniversität Lommel. The Juleica certificate is a certificate that you can get by doing a 5 day course through the German War Graves Commission. You can only do this if your German is okay. If you only speak English, we will give you the opportunity to do a similar course through other organisations. You will do a one-day hygiene course, about hygiene rules in kitchens. And you will be given the opportunity to attend other international training courses that we run ourselves.
Profilo del partecipante
It would be good to have a driving licence. And being able to ride a bike is certainly useful. The age will be between 18 and 30. We would like to have a good gender balance. So we will try to get a boy and a girl if possible. You can come from a big city, but then you need to know that our house is in a somewhat remote area. We don't expect you to have studied before. You must be open to a new challenge in another country. You need to realise that you will be away from home for a long time. You should be a social person who likes to work with groups of people.
