Projektschule

Graz, Austria

Descrizione

Are you motivated to work in a democratic and creativity-driven primary school? The hosting organization is a private school, founded by parents 43 years ago in the city center of Graz, a university town. This school welcomes 80 kids in the age of 6-10, and through reading, writing and maths, the kids learn how to express themselves (vocally and in artistic ways), how they feel and what they need. The kids learn democracy and to care about others and the environment. Your role as a volunteer will be to accompany school life every day, to act as the second person in the classroom and to support kids individually, to eat and spend time with them. If you're passionate about music, art, theatre or dance, you'll be able to use this passion to set up various activities with the kids. Do you believe that education is more than just the official curriculum? If so, you're the ideal candidate for this project.

Alloggio, vitto e trasporto

You will be hosted in a single room in a student hostel. You will receive an allowance for pocket money (established by the European Union for Austria, that is 7 euros per day) and you will benefit from fresh daily meals prepared by the school's in-house cook, with additional funds for self-catering. The travel from Italy to Austria and back will be completely reimbursed. You’ll be also covered by the insurance agreed with the European Solidarity Corps, protecting you from any possible risk.

Formazione durante l'attività

You will attend a pre-departure training before leaving Italy, another so-called “on arrival training” a few weeks after your advent in Austria and a “midterm training” around at half of your volunteering experience. You will be offered a German language course. You will be supported by both a task-related tutor and a second personal mentor: they will help you to get part in the daily life of the hosting organization through regular meetings.

Profilo del partecipante

We expect you to be responsible and eager to support students and teachers, to possess an open-minded and proactive attitude, to be comfortable interacting with children coming from diverse backgrounds and age groups, and to have a keen interest in alternative pedagogy. We also appreciate if you possess specific skills in arts, music, handicrafts, or sports.
