Since 1962 the organisation „LEBENSHILFE“ provides different institutions and services in the area of Altenkirchen. The institutions are day-care centres for children and day-care centres, residences, workshops and different need-oriented services, for example leisure time activities, for people of all ages with disabilities. Each year the association LEBENSHILFE funds holiday camps for 200 persons with disabilities. The residence Flammersfeld was opened in 2004 and is now the home of 52 adults with mental and psychic disabilities. It consists of three houses and has 48 single rooms and four double rooms, with each two rooms sharing a bathroom. For the most parts the residence is barrier-free. Each of the four assisted housing groups owns an individually designed recreation room (a combination of kitchen, dining room and living room), where most of the common living takes place. There is also one additional housing group for persons with a high need for assistance.
Dzīvošana, ēdināšana un transports
The volunteers live in accomodations provided by the organisation, it is a shared flat close to the workplace of the volunteer. There is a shared kitchen, bathroom and a shared living and dining room. The volunteers can cook there alone or together with the other in the evenings and on weekends. Food is partly provided by the hosting organisation, during working time the volunteers eat there. They get extra money for the other meals and 150 € pocket money per month. The area is very rural and therefore the public transport is rare.
Mācības pasākuma laikā
The volunteers will receive at least one German language course and additionally the online language course via the OLS system. The volunteers get the possibility to take part in the meetings of the team and will also have meetings only with the tutor on a regular basis. They will take part in two obligatory trainings, organized by the German National Agency, and additionally in one workshop, organized by the coordinating organization VIA e.V.

The motivation of the volunteer to do a voluntary service is the most important criteria in selecting the volunteers. Other criteria might be: • an international driving licence as well as driving experience • German language skills would be appreciated • desirable: initial experience in the field of education / working with people with disabilities • respect for people with disabilities
