We have two volunteering positions open. A participant will be volunteering at the Educational Centre and community school DOBROdružstvo (“Adventure”). Activities that we offer: working directly with the children and students 3-15 years old, assistance to teachers and educators, teaching English (or other foreign) language, preparing and organising own personal project, activities or workshops, assistance in a school-club with afternoon classes (art, ceramics, music, sport or drama) and accompanying students during Friday’s “going out” (weekly trip to a gallery, museum or nature - learning outside), participation in a community events (raft, picnic, cycling) and little administrative work (taking photos, creating materials, posters, writing blog). DOBROdružstvo is a small school located at the central part of Bratislava, an old town, not far from the castle. We work in a small mixed-age groups and use elements of Montessori pedagogy as well as project-based learning (PBL).
Regelingen voor accommodatie, eten, en vervoer
Volunteer will be provided an adequate place to live - in a separate room in a dormitory or in a shared apartment with other volunteers (room can be shared with 1 more person), we do not guarantee a separate room. Bratislavské dobrovoľnícke centrum (BDC) provides the volunteer with pocket money, food arrangements, and contribution to local transportation (380 EUR/month) and travel arrangements to and from Bratislava according to the distance calculator.
Wat leer je?
BDC (lead organization) provides orientation training the day after arrival, and other trainings related to the program. Volunteer attends a compulsory language course, coaching sessions, meetings. Hosting organization provides specific training and tutoring during the project. Volunteer also must attend On-arrival and Mid-term training organized by the National Agency where he/she will meet with other ESC volunteers from Slovakia & at the end of the project gains the Youthpass certificate.
Wie zoeken we?
In this project, we are looking for someone ready to take up new challenges and who loves working with children. He/she should be enthusiastic about growing their personal and professional skills and prepared for unexpected experiences. Ideally a participant is at least 21 years old. Experience in work with children or interest in Montessori education is an advantage but not necessary. Required qualities include: flexibility (work with children requires good adaptability to changes), creativity, open-mindedness, empathy, self-reliance, responsibility for assigned tasks and communication skills in English.
