As a host entity, we offer the "Shared Lives" project in which the volunteer can imagine, prepare and lead activities for users of the Sant Lluís Geriatric Center. These activities may include: crafts, memory activities, adapted physical activities, etc. We offer the possibility for young Europeans to learn through interactions with the elderly by participating in a service where you can care and accompany the residents through their daily routine. In exchange, the residents will benefit from the ideas, youth, energy and international experience of the volunteers. You will become part of the local community through the interaction with the residents, their family members, as well as with the center's workers. Democratic values are promoted, such as: solidarity and social cohesion. This particular project is attached to a certain ammount of working hours per week (35 max).
Szállás, étkezés és utazás
There's going to be 4 volunteers in total, living together in the same flat in the center of the village, just 2 minutes walking from the organisation. The flat is fully paid by the organisation and you will have an allowance set by country, with money for living expenses, shopping and pocket money for you. You will also get a transport card to be able to travel by bus to other towns around the island. Volunteers should understand that they will be living with volunteers from other countries with other customs and culture.
Képzés a tevékenység során
You will be explained what sort of activities we carry out during the year, and will get the opportunity to bring your ideas and implement them with the support of the team. You will take Spanish lessons weekly. You will also participate in the on-arrival training for a week during the first month of your volunteering activity. It's a great opportunity to share experiences and get more of a European dimension through contact with other volunteers. Then, half-way through your volunteering there's the mid-term training for another week of networking.
Résztvevői profil
We are looking for two volunteers for this project to complement each other and work as a duo. We are looking for - someone who enjoys being with elderly peolpe, with empathy and patience, who enjoys organizing activities. - good listening skills. - Spanish knowledge is a plus, as the residents will mainly comunicate in this language. - team players, as you will collaborate with another volunteer and the rest of the team in Sant Lluís' geriatric residence.
