Community Development & Resilience Building in Slum Communities
ADRA-ADVENTIST DEVELOPMENT AND RELIEF AGENCY
UGANDA PIONEERS ASSOCIATION
KAMPALA, Uganda
Apraksts
With support from the Uganda Pioneers’ Association (UPA), an indigenous youth-led NGO, the volunteer will be assigned to Community Empowerment For Village Development Uganda (CEFOVID-UG). The charity supports marginalized slum dwellers, focusing on orphans and vulnerable children and youth in the suburbs of Kampala. The project aims to enhance access to social and economic services to address and reduce vulnerability, including poverty and lack of awareness and skills for self-sustainability. Volunteers should prepare to assist with one or more of the following: • Conduct outreach and awareness campaigns on sanitation and hygiene • Provide after-school support to children • Organize recreational activities (sports, arts) • Assist with fundraising for vulnerable households • Train staff on social media management • Participate in home and school visits to document success stories and follow up with beneficiaries
Dzīvošana, ēdināšana un transports
Accommodation will be provided in a shared apartment with other volunteers, each having their own bedroom, located in the Kasubi-Nakulabye suburbs of Kampala City. A monthly allowance will be provided to cover food, transport, and communication expenses. The volunteer will be responsible for preparing their own meals. Public transport in and around Kampala primarily consists of commuter taxis, known locally as Matatus. For shorter distances within the community, the volunteer will mainly use motorbikes called Boda Bodas.
