The volunteer sent by ASPEm will support the ASPEm office in Bolivia in activities aimed at reducing risks associated with climate change and protecting the environment, in collaboration with Agua Sustentable, dedicated to sustainable water and environmental management, and FAUNAGUA, focused on sustainable development and the management of hydrobiological resources and wetlands. Activities will take place in Tiquipaya and Quillacollo, with occasional interventions in Cocapata, northern slope of Cerro Tunari. These include reforestation with native species such as kewiña, conducting surveys for the development of analyses and reports, supporting watershed education activities during school visits, assisting with the quarterly management of community accounts, helping to digitize the Pihusi drinking water network, supporting the systematization of meteorological station data, and accompanying local communities. A commitment of 30-40 hours per week is expected (excluding travel time).
Regelingen voor accommodatie, eten, en vervoer
The accommodation is in Cochabamba, where ASPEm’s office is based. The city offers a variety of services, activities, courses, shops, pharmacies, banks, restaurants (including vegetarian and vegan options). The house is shared with other volunteers, each with a private room, and includes basic utilities (water, gas, electricity, internet). It has good access to safe and affordable public transportation to reach Tiquipaya and Quillacollo, (30–45 minutes from the city centre and 15 minutes from the ASPEm’s office), as well as occasional activities in Cocapata (3–4 hours away).
Wat leer je?
A pre-departure training with ASPEm (in Italy or Spain) is provided. During the volunteering, there are opportunities for exchange among volunteers and learning spaces aimed at strengthening competencies and providing tools for both performance and well-being. The training includes reflection on social needs and the management of hydrobiological resources, the development of teamwork skills, involvement in fire prevention programmes, and practical learning and reflection on ecosystem restoration, biodiversity protection and water sustainability. Competencies are certified through Youthpass.
Wie zoeken we?
The ideal candidate is someone who demonstrates adaptability and respect for different cultures, along with empathy, solidarity, patience, and commitment. Knowledge of or interest in environmental management and fieldwork is valued, as well as availability to travel during the week (between 4 and 6 hours), which also offers the opportunity to experience diverse natural landscapes and moments of exchange with local communities. A background or experience in areas such as environmental education, geography, or environmental protection is considered an asset. Eligibility: Candidates must be 18 to 35 years old, reside in one of the eligible countries (EU Member State, North Macedonia, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Turkey), have completed the compulsory Humanitarian Aid Volunteering training and not have participated before in individual Humanitarian Aid Volunteering. When adding together this new volunteering opportunity and any previous participation in EU volunteering programmes, the total duration cannot exceed 12 months.
