CHILL - Support a small town in North Italy

Associazione Basilicata Link APS

Rittana, Italië

Beschrijving

The project CHILL will be realized in the lower Stura Valley, a mountain area affected by depopulation and ageing, with the aim of regenerating the territory through culture, creativity, and youth participation. It started from the creation of the Nuovi Mondi Festival, an international mountain film festival that transformed small villages into spaces for cultural and social innovation. Promoted by RIFAI (Italian Network of Young Facilitators of Internal Areas) which is a national organization dedicated to empowering young people living in Italy's marginalized regione. Volunteers will support: daily life in rural town (workshops, discussions, logistics), Nuovi Mondi Festival (ticket office, registration desk, documentation, setting up, logistics), help local NGOS (guiding tourists, help at sport centre, gardening at local camping, help guests at camping);

Regelingen voor accommodatie, eten, en vervoer

Volunteers stay at the social camp in the town of Roccasparvera, in a small house/dormitory equipped with a bathroom and a fully furnished kitchen. During the festival, meals are shared with the staff, creating a strong sense of community. At other times, meals may be prepared by the team or volunteers may receive groceries to cook independently. The atmosphere is simple and welcoming, and the kitchen is always available for personal use. Transportation will be organized either by walking or when needed by the staff picking volunteers up to join activities. There is no taxi service available.

Wat leer je?

RIFAI acts as a collaborative laboratory for the future, focusing on innovation in sustainability, environmental protection, youth policy, and tourism to revitalize internal areas. The project is coordinated by Basilicata link which is a cultural association founded in 2012 in the city of Matera in South Italy, with the objective to support activities in rural areas of all Italy. Volunteers will learn about community life, about collaboration, working in team, helping in coordination of a big festival, helping local NGOs with also giving their personal input to the associations.

Wie zoeken we?

The ideal volunteer is someone who enjoys taking initiative and feels comfortable moving between different rhythms: the lively, collective energy of festival days and the deep quiet of mountain life. They should appreciate both mental and manual work, from helping with logistics to painting festival structures, setting up spaces or supporting outdoor activities. Curiosity for culture is essential, as the project treats culture not as decoration but as a real tool for community transformation. Volunteers should be ready to live in small villages surrounded by nature, unbothered by insects, silence or slow days, and able to enjoy simple pleasures like reading in the sun, walking through the woods or sharing an improvised picnic by the river. Instead during the festival week the surrounding will be: people everywhere, music, going to bed late, supporting and helping in many different ways.
