The care and support role for children with special needs challenges traditional stigma and neglect. It introduces inclusive practices that empower families, promote dignity, and influence systemic changes in service delivery and infrastructure. // RESPONSIBILITIES: Support the project team in the daily care and support of children at the center; Assist children in developing basic life skills, such as hygiene and station skills; Provide basic lessons focused on Early Childhood Development (ECD) and understanding; Collaborate with the team in providing various therapies to children; Conduct community visits to offer rehabilitation and support to parents/guardians; Identify and develop children's talents through games and sports activities; Liaise with other centers to promote the rights of children with disabilities; Assist in conducting basic research to promote inclusion.

Accommodation will be provided in a shared apartment with other volunteers, each having a private, lockable bedroom, located in the suburbs of Kampala (Nansana or Kasubi-Nakulabye). A monthly allowance will cover food, communication expenses, and transportation. The volunteer will travel daily to the project site. Public transport in Kampala mainly consists of commuter taxis (Matatus), while shorter distances are typically covered using motorbikes known as Boda Bodas.

The volunteer will participate in an online pre-departure training, followed by an in-person intensive induction upon arrival at the host organization. Additionally, the volunteer will receive financial support and encouragement to learn the local language.

POSITION IS NOT SUITABLE FOR CANDIDATES WITH PREVIOUS ESC/EVS/EU VOLUNTEERING EXPERIENCE EXCEEDING 5 MONTHS. We are looking for a motivated and empathetic individual with a background or strong interest in social work, education, psychology, special needs care, or a related field. The ideal candidate is patient, adaptable, and committed to inclusive practices and the rights of children with disabilities. Experience working with children or vulnerable groups is an advantage. The volunteer should be open to community work, basic research, and cross-cultural collaboration, and willing to engage respectfully with families and local partners throughout the assignment.
