In Armenia, preventive health practices are still not widely established, and health is often addressed only once problems appear. Formal education and informal learning within families and communities do not fully cover daily healthy habits, while cultural barriers make it difficult to speak openly about health, the body, and taboo topics. As an ESC Humanitarian Aid volunteer, you will help YIC develop more systematic work in public health and strengthen its capacity. You will educate young people, youth workers, and communities on nutrition, mental health, hygiene, sexual health, vaccination, first aid, and disease prevention through workshops, trainings, social media campaigns, mobile apps, and other creative tools. You will be based at the YIC office in Gyumri and carry out activities in YIC “Youth House” open youth centres in Gyumri, Artik, Armavir, Ejmiatsin, and Gavar, across Shirak, Armavir, and Gegharkunik regions.
Smještaj, hrana i prijevoz
YIC provides accommodation in a rented apartment, which you may share with another volunteer. The apartment is fully equipped, including cooking facilities, and offers safe living conditions and a lockable room for each volunteer. You can prepare your own meals or join daily office lunches with staff and other local and international volunteers for €1 per meal, with dietary needs taken into account. You will use local marshrutkas to travel between home and the office; one ride costs 100 AMD, with transportation and food expenses covered through the monthly allowance of €500.
Osposobljavanje tijekom aktivnosti
At the beginning of the project, you will take part in an introductory meeting organized by YIC. During this meeting, you will learn about your tasks, current projects, and the organization’s activities, as well as practical aspects of your stay in Armenia, including health and safety procedures, accommodation, finances, internal policies, and cultural aspects. A Learning and Development Plan will be defined before your departure and followed throughout the deployment. If interested, you can also take part in various international days, events, and youth work-related trainings organized by YIC
Profil sudionika
We welcome candidates with a Master’s degree in Public Health, knowledge of First Aid, and previous experience in the public health sector, which will be highly appreciated. We are looking for someone passionate about health-related topics, raising awareness, and breaking taboos around health and well-being. You should be adaptable, flexible, willing to learn and live in a different culture, and comfortable working with youth and adolescents. Good spoken and written English, as well as experience or interest in delivering trainings, are also welcome.
