"STARRY" HumAid Volunteering in Nepal (Individual Volunteering)

ASOCIACION BUILDING BRIDGES

VIN

KATHMANDU, Nepāla

Apraksts

Volunteers will carry out activities at the NaraTika Community Learning Center, a project by Volunteers Initiative Nepal (ViN), in Okhaldhunga.

Following the recent devastating floods in Nepal, volunteers will initially support ViN's relief and community recovery efforts, assisting affected and vulnerable communities according to local needs. As the situation stabilises, the focus will progressively shift towards ViN's long-term community empowerment activities (Child Protection & Development and Gender Equality - Women's Empowerment).

Because this is a post-disaster context, activities may be adapted over the course of the project to respond to the evolving priorities of the local communities, and volunteers should be prepared for flexibility in their daily tasks.

Activities will focus on children and women, life-skills and creative activities, educational support, women’s empowerment, digital literacy, basic English, community awareness and entrepreneurship initiatives.

Dzīvošana, ēdināšana un transports

Volunteers will stay at NaraTika Community Learning Center in Okhaldhunga.

The living facilities are simple and basic. The center has shared toilets and showers with hot and cold water, kitchen, dining and living areas. Male and female volunteers will share the same living area with separate rooms. Volunteers will sleep on simple bunk beds in shared rooms. Three meals per day, mainly based on Nepali cuisine, and safe filtered drinking water are provided. The working site is within walking distance. Internet can be limited and occasional power cuts may occur.

Pocket money is 500 EUR per month.

Mācības pasākuma laikā

Volunteers Initiative Nepal (VIN) offers a 3- to 5-day orientation program to help volunteers integrate into Nepalese culture and prepare for their projects. The training covers cultural and health guidance, basic Nepali language, administrative tasks, an overview of social media use; VIN’s mission, activities, and target communities; project-specific training, such as early childhood development or infrastructure projects. Volunteers also receive T-shirts, participate in a group photoshoot, and complete the induction evaluation form.

Dalībnieka profils

We are seeking dynamic and motivated individuals who are passionate about education, community development, women's empowerment, youth leadership, and sustainability.

Volunteers should be open-minded, culturally sensitive and willing to work closely with local people.

Due to the recent floods, participants should be prepared to support affected communities and contribute to relief and recovery activities according to local needs. Empathy, flexibility, teamwork and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances are especially important.

Volunteers will also work with women and children through community-based activities focusing on child development, life skills, education, women’s empowerment, digital literacy and basic English. Previous experience in humanitarian aid, education, social work, community development or working with women and children is an advantage, but not required. Motivation and willingness to learn and contribute are what matter most.
