Greening public and learning spaces

GAIA

Bozevce, Ranilug, Kosovo * UN resolution

Descrizione

GAIA’s involvement in the local community includes environmental education, advocacy, and practical solutions. GAIA’s property is based in one of the villages of Ranilug Municipality, but activities take place in other places, including other municipalities. This autumn, GAIA wants to: 1) support the greening of public spaces in the municipality and 2) improve and equip a new educational space for children and youth in Ropotovo.

The first part of the project will involve tree planting in public areas, based on a municipal plan. Summers are getting hotter and drier, so more trees in public spaces are necessary.

The other part will involve creating and constructing educational elements in the new space (garden beds, furniture, a composting site, a playground, and similar). The space will be used from this autumn mainly for environmental programs, but also for cultural and artistic activities.  There might be activities organised with and for local children and youth.

Alloggio, vitto e trasporto

Volunteers will be accommodated at GAIA’s property in Bozevce village. Accommodation is in a house with 4 rooms, a bathroom, a small kitchen, and composting toilets. Transport to the activity location will be organised daily. Volunteers will spend around 7 hours at the work location. Food will be vegetarian with a vegan option, mainly from seasonal and local ingredients. Accommodation is simple, nature-friendly, and in a remote rural area with lots of domestic (cats, dogs, chickens, goats…) and wild animals.

Formazione durante l'attività

At the beginning of the activity, introductory and preparation sessions will take place. Volunteers will be introduced to the host organisation, local community and the context, and the overall idea of this volunteering project. Besides that, volunteers will have plenty of learning opportunities such as:

  • Working with tools and wood,
  • Sustainable lifestyle,
  • How to cook vegetarian/vegan meals for big groups,
  • How to live and share resources with others…
Profilo del partecipante

Volunteers should be willing to work hard, mainly manually: digging, woodwork, cleaning, etc. The volunteers should be willing to share rooms, meals, and duties. Please do not apply if you are not OK with vegan/vegetarian food and if you are not willing to travel green (no plane!). Volunteers should be mindful about the local culture and open to intercultural learning.
