URGENT CALL: ESC VOLUNTEERING IN OPOLE, POLAND!
Ready to start your ESC adventure ASAP? Join Semper Avanti Opole for a long-term project combining community engagement, creativity and intercultural exchange.
This particular call focuses on SAO’s community activities involving seniors. You will support our everyday activities and local initiatives, organise workshops and have space to develop your own ideas. Activities may include creative and cultural workshops, languages, games, gentle exercise, local events, trips and excursions.
This is not an elderly care or personal assistance project. Your role is about spending time with people, building relationships and creating opportunities to do something interesting together.
The schedule is approximately 6 hours a day, 5 days a week. Possible duration: 6 months or 10-12 months.
Regelingen voor accommodatie, eten, en vervoer
You will live in shared accommodation in Opole, in a double room with another ESC volunteer. Wi-Fi and basic equipment are provided. You will receive 550 PLN/month for food and 6 EUR/day as pocket money. Transportation between your accommodation and the place of your daily activities will also be provided or covered by the organisation. Travel costs will be reimbursed according to ESC rules and the applicable distance band. ESC insurance is provided.
Wat leer je?
You will receive an introduction to Semper Avanti, your activities and practical aspects of living in Opole. Your coordinator will support you throughout the project and while developing your own activities.
You will participate in the official ESC training cycle organised by the Polish National Agency, including on-arrival training and, when applicable, mid-term evaluation.
You will also have access to Online Language Support (OLS) and opportunities to learn Polish.
Wie zoeken we?
We are looking for an open, communicative and proactive volunteer aged 18-30 who enjoys working with people and bringing different generations together.
This particular call focuses on SAO’s community activities involving seniors, but this is important: we are not looking for volunteers to provide elderly care or personal assistance. The seniors taking part in these activities are active, curious people who choose to spend their retirement learning new things, meeting others, developing their interests, staying active and simply having a good time together.
Your role is about spending time with people, building relationships and creating opportunities to do something interesting together. Previous experience with seniors is welcome, but not required. Much more important is that you enjoy talking to people, sharing ideas and encouraging others to participate.
We especially welcome volunteers who have their own hobbies, skills and ideas they would like to share. Music, dancing, gentle exercise, arts & crafts, photography, languages, games, cooking, cultural activities or something completely different can become the starting point for your own activities.
During your long-term project, you will have the opportunity to develop a regular programme of activities together with the seniors, based on your interests and on what they would actually like to do and learn. Alongside taking part in SAO’s ongoing community activities, you will be encouraged to create and lead your own regular workshops or sessions, something that can grow over time as you get to know the group, their interests and each other.
You should also be ready to support activities organised by SAO together with local community partners. These may include local events, cultural activities, trips and excursions, creating plenty of opportunities for intergenerational and intercultural exchange.
You do not need to speak Polish before arrival. You should have enough English for everyday communication within the project team. However, since you will be spending 6-12 months in Poland, we would love to find someone who is genuinely interested in learning at least some basic Polish during the project. Many of the seniors you will meet may not feel comfortable ora able to communicate in English, so even simple Polish can help you build relationships, understand each other better and become more independent in your activities with the group. You do not need to arrive knowing the language. What matters to us is that you are willing to learn and use it along the way.
We are looking for someone who is patient, reliable, flexible, creative and genuinely interested in becoming involved in the local community.
This is an URGENT CALL and we are looking for volunteers who can join us as soon as possible.
Preferred arrival dates: 28 September-4 October 2026 or 12-14 October 2026.
We currently offer two possible lengths of stay: a minimum of 6 months, which can work well as a semester abroad, or 10-12 months for those looking for the full long-term ESC experience.
If you are applying from outside the EU/Schengen Area, please keep in mind that our priority in this urgent recruitment is candidates who can realistically arrive within one of the indicated timeframes. Because visa procedures can take considerably longer, candidates who can enter Poland visa-free (“green passport” holders) will be prioritised.
