Orfeas Organization began functioning in August 2000. The purpose of our organization is the utilization of free time, informing young people about international and national programs, and the encouragement of participation.
Our organization has a great motivation and interest to offer young people from the local community but also youngsters from different countries a wide range of opportunities and information in order to achieve intercultural experience and widen their European awareness. By participating in this program with the volunteers our aim is to promote common European
values, foster social integration, enhance intercultural understanding and also the sense of belonging to a community.
Furthermore, with the activities we bring together young people with the goal to build a more inclusive society, supporting vulnerable people and responding to societal challenges. Our goal is to make them understand what it means: “thinking globally, acting locally”.
Our main objective is to develop a more positive attitude towards volunteering, solidarity actions, nonformal education.
We are in close cooperation with the Municipality Xylokastro - Evrostinis and the Municipality of Velo-Vocha by coordinating their voluntary projects through our youth information office that offers a wide range of information, regarding European and National programs, which concern youths from 16-30yr olds and encourages active participation. Above of the everyday activities of the organization that is described below, we support the cultural events, festivals, exhibitions... etc of the municipalities with our international volunteers adding extra value and an international dimension to these events.
Orfeas organziation's activities includes:
- with the ESC volunteers we organize workshops to students in language schools with the goal of developing their communication and cooperation with youngsters from foreign countries
- our volunteers are preparing packeges with food items with the locals in the social charity center to families with fewer opportunities that get support from the government
- we run the "Language cafe" program that its goal is to bring together the locals with all our volunteers for a chat / conversation in a very nice and cosy cafe place and to get to know each other. Through this action we would like to open the horizon of the local youth but not only, to show them the mobility opportunities but also to make them feel comfortable to chat with people from different countries with different backgrounds in order to overcome their personal barriers, stereotypes.
- we organize workshops, campaigns, exhibitions in the local community for the locals like 'Tresasure hunting games', table games activities, workshops in the streets and the square of Xylokastro...etc.
- active in social media, uploading interviews, E-magazines, short movies in the socail media chanels andthe website of the organization
Moreover we have developed with the volunteers some activities, workshops through digital technology, we make campaings in the town with different
issues, make interviews and short videos promoting projects, volunteerism..etc., "live stories" through social media, organizing competitions, challenges, campaings, contests,
exhibitions through social media. Our goal is to involve all the locals from the region to join us with the activities.
