descrizione dell'organizzazione

Giosef Turin - Marti Gianello Guide A.P.S. is a social promotion organization based in Turin, whose main purpose is the promotion of Euro-Mediterranean citizenship in respect of human rights, intercultural diversity and the principles of non-discrimination with an intersectional approach.
Founded in 2004 as a branch of the national Giosef Italy network, the association works actively with non-formal education methodologies for young people and since 2013 it has begun to implement techniques from the theatrical methodology in the framework of theNFE. Our work is based on the belief that new educational paradigms are needed in a rapidly changing society where formal education strategies are unable to respond at the same pace to recent challenges and developments.
We see in our work the possibility of affirming human rights in all their aspects and contradictions, in order to promote a culture of anti-discrimination.
The main objectives pursued by our organization are:
1) YOUTH WORK AND NON FORMAL EDUCATION: to produce social change through non-formal education on human rights and international youth work;
2) INTERSECTIONAL APPROACH: to promote a culture of anti-sexism, anti-racism, against homo-lesbo-transphobia, xenophobia, islamophobia and all forms of discrimination with an intersectional approach;
3) INCLUSION AND PARTICIPATION: to promote participation and active citizenship of young people to fight against social exclusion and promote rights;
4) EUROMEDITERRANEAN COOPERATION: to promote cooperation between European countries and partner countries from the South Mediterranean area to facilitate social cohesion in the Mediterranean;
5) INTERNATIONAL MOBILITY: to promote international mobility and intercultural learning among young people.

In generale, Giosef Torino works with the following target groups:
- young people between 18 and 30 years old;
- youth workers, trainers, educators and activists;
- intercultural mediator and social workers.

In particular, the organization has worked throughout the years with young people with fewer opportunities, with an intersectional approach:
- migrant background and second generations;
- minorities related to sexual identity;
- social, cultural and economical obstacles.

Giosef Torino has always collaborated with a wide range of partners and interlocutors: we believe it is essential to create synergies between formal and non-formal education organizations, the third sector, the mass media and public administrations in order to maximize the impact of our activities, in line with the 2020 Agenda of the European Union.
Giosef Torino is working towards this joint effort between all the stakeholders mentioned above, maintaining a permanent flow of communication, cooperation and debate around the main challenges related to the promotion of human rights. In order to maintain the broadest possible perspective, we have developed a strong focus on intersectionality: we believe it is essential to keep in mind all the components of identity that contribute to self-perception, if we want to dismantle all forms of discrimination. We are aware, for example, that it is impossible to counter Islamophobia without considering the racist dynamics that lie under the specific discriminatory expression, just as we cannot fight homophobia without analyzing traditionally constructed forms of sexism.
We completely agree with the key concept in Audre Lorde's work: "There is no single-issue battle because we don't live single-issue lives."
Giosef Torino is part of several networks at local, national and international level, essential for guaranteeing better quality work:
CasArcobaleno: born in 2012 and officially operational since 2014, CasArcobaleno is a coworking space with the aim of sharing ideas and resources among more than 20 locally active organizations, each of them with a specific goal. The structure is located in one of the most intercultural districts of Turin, Porta Palazzo, thus allowing all organizations to be contaminated by many different multicultural influences.
Giosef Italy: a network of youth organizations spread throughout Italy. Local committees behave in a very independent and diversified way, using the tools and methods best suited to their local dimension in order to achieve the objectives of each organization, but they are all linked through the use of innovative non-formal education techniques.
Human Rights European Youth Network - HREYN: HREYN's main purpose is to contribute to the implementation of human rights education in the youth sector at European level.
