Local Democracy Agency Brtonigla is a non-governmental organisation founded in 1996 as part of the Council of Europe initiative for establishing lasting peace in the post-Yugoslav region. Established by collaborating organisations (European regional bodies like the city of Bellinzona, Marmande, Municipality of Russi, Ravenna, Greve in Chianti, Portogruaro, Brtonigla, Monfalcone, Trieste, Causes Communes Switzerland, Marevivo, Circolo Istria) and the Congress of Local and Region Authorities and has signed an agreement with the Istrian Region to implement its activities on the territory of the region.
LDA Brtonigla is committed to support the local democracy and active citizenship, raising the awareness of the European values, facilitate and promote development opportunities through European programmes among the young people, support the efforts of the local institutions and community to create solutions for the social and economic challenges, promote and support the unique richness of the regional identity, support the local minorities, Safeguard, and protection of the environment, develop networks and partnerships with many local, national, and international organisations with the purpose to create sustainable development opportunities for the region.
LDA has built a long record as a leading actor for strengthening the democratic values and European awareness among the local Istrain population and particularly the local youth as a main target group, has enabled the participation of large number of local young people and professionals in various European programmes. Other target groups include support for people with disabilities, the elderly people, and the regional integration and
connectivity with the other European regions.
