Opis organizácie

The Archeoclub of Campobello di Licata is a cultural association founded in 1998 with the main objective of protection, promotion and enhancement of cultural and environmental heritage, as well as education, training and the promotion of the arts and culture.

Since the beginning all these objectives have been developed through the Kalat Project, a strategic project to promote cultural tourism as a local development tool, according to the methodology explicated by G.Catania - G.Vultaggio in "Useful Tourism” (GDG Publisher, 2005. Trapani).

In the last years Kalat was involved in an "Innovative Employment Action" from the Italian Ministry of Labor and in an "Exemplary Project for the Southern Regions of Italy” for “Fondazione con il Sud”. In this way, the association had the opportunity to develop different kind of activities like:
- intercultural initiatives linked to Youth European Programs in the local community and in schools, with more than 110 EVS volunteers hosted & sent (95% success); the participation to Leonardo da Vinci mobility projects.
- The creation of “Kiss” (Kalat International Summer School) recovering an abandoned public school of 1000 mq.
- XXII editions of Summer International Archeological Camps for adults and kids and 3 editions of HAPPENING, a youth international meeting on local culture;
- a permanent exhibition about Kalat’s archeological researches; an archaeological didactics center; the recovery of the archaeological area of IachinuFilìin order to preserve the finds of previous civilizations in the territory.
- USEIT, a documentation center with modern tools (video courses, e-books, software, databases, ...) and with courses on personal growth (memorization techniques, techniques, time management).
- Activities about legality; an annual local event, on 23rd May, " SIAMO Falcone" to commemorate the victims of the massacre of Capaci; archaeological research activities in lands confiscated from the Mafia, in collaboration with LIBERA association.
- “Gusto dell’isola”, a seminar about local gastronomy which involved more than 600 people.

All these projects were possible thanks to the work of an intercultural staff and also to the collaboration of qualified members from Technical &Scientific Committee, which includes professors from University of Palermo and archaeologists from the Sicilian Governative Office for Cultural Heritage.

Archeoclub venues:
• an office of about 36 square meters in the Municipal Cultural Center;
• an apartment of 50 square meters for foreign volunteers and collaborators;
• a Youth Center of 1000 square meters;
• a 50 sqm warehouse.
