Opis organizacije

Legambiente Sernaglia was founded in 1988. Since the beginning it has been engaged in a work to raise awareness of waste collection, activating itself in a door-to-door activity of recyclable waste collection until the early 2000s.

The association is headquartered in Sernaglia della Battaglia, a town in the province of Treviso, framed by the river Piave and the hills of Quartier del Piave. It is enrolled in the regional register as a voluntary organization with over a hundred members. It has set as a main goal the promotion of environmental peculiarities of Quartier del Piave territory.

One of the main objectives of the association has always been to involve people (especially young people) to approach to the critical issues of the territory in a new and constructive way, pointing out creative and positive solutions. The association has been collaborating for years with social rehabilitation centres, with schools and other organizations. Its goal is to involve as much as possible the community and to create a network of people even if they are different and distant from each other but united by the same love for the environment.

In collaboration with the city administration of Sernaglia, the association has created and managed until 2018 at the former elementary school of Fontigo, the Environmental Education Center "Media Piave". This structure has been transformed into a museum under the protection of a Management Committee composed of representatives from many associations of the municipality and it is still the legal headquarters of Legambiente Sernaglia.

Currently its main activities are:

Management (maintenance and preservation) of the area called Fontane Bianche oasis and the Volpere paths. This oasis, a floodplain area of the Piave river measuring 35 hectares, was granted by the Civil Engineering Department of Treviso to Legambiente Sernaglia. Since 1991, our organization has created inside this site an ecological path, allowing people to have the benefit to enjoy the rich springs of high environmental value.

Since a few years, Legambiente guarantees a presence at the Fontane Bianche main entrance, welcoming and informing the visitors concerning its guidelines and regulations. In addition to that, schools and tourists can be guided by our excellent naturalist guides, who share their knowledge and appreciation for the local flora and fauna, providing a true connection with people and nature.

Tree Festival

Since 1989 Legambiente Sernaglia has been organizing the "Festa degli Alberi" (Tree Festival) in collaboration with the elementary schools of the surrounding towns. It is an event dedicated to the trees, underlining its positive effects on the quality of the environment and on people's lives. The idea is to raise awareness on the safeguard of the arboreal heritage. In this occasion, each child plants a tree, thus actively contributing to the restoration of woodlands. Since 2021 this festival has been transformed into "Tree Week", with small online conferences on environmental issues related to trees and small workshops for planting tree seeds. The event involved about 500 pupils. Over the years, through this project, more than 18 thousand trees had been planted.

Work Camps

Since 2009 our association hosts national and international work camps throughout the year, creating a network of cooperation for the enhancement and maintenance of natural sites mentioned above and thus spreading abroad the ideas and values of Legambiente Sernaglia.


Mosnigo Sundial Garden

In Mosnigo village, a sundial for timing information linked to season cycles has been created in collaboration with local authorities, catholic church, schools, and our organization. This sundial consists of an octagonal and a circular element, surrounded by aromatic plants, roses and trees. It is our responsability to do the maintenance work of this area.

Maintenance of Caravan Park

For twenty years Legambiente Sernaglia has been managing a camper parking area with a capacity of 20 places, taking care of its reception and maintenance.

EVENTS

The association organizes local events as:

- Walks and readings performance in the naturalistic oasis Fontane Bianche together with the volunteers of Legambiente in collaboration with local libraries.

- Foreign language courses organized by ESC volunteers.

- Conferences on specific environmental issues (pollution, organic farming, damage to biodiversity) with the participation of experts who have distinguished themselves for their commitment to environmental protection and maintenance of biodiversity.

-Participation in events related to the territory through educational workshops.

-Ecological days for waste collection around the Piave river.

Objectives
Through these activities. Legambiente intends to promote and spread the environmentalist culture in people's minds by creating a network of united people.
