The Lisbon Triennale of Architecture is a solid and credible cultural non-profit association whose mission is to research, foster and promote architectural thinking and practice. It holds a major forum every three years for the debate, discussion and dissemination of architecture across geographic and disciplinary boundaries. Existing since 2006, in 2013 the Triennale was awarded the statute of public utility.Since its inception, strong programmes anchored on an uncompromising curatorial vision mean the Triennale has garnered significant recognition from both the public and critics, as evidenced by the more than 368,000 visitors in just three events (2007 - Urban Voids; 2010 - Let's Talk About Houses; and 2013 - Close, Closer) and a huge editorial coverage.Now, from its new headquarters in the Sinel de Cordes Palace in Lisbon, Portugal, where a creative cluster was established, the Triennale organises “Intervalo” (Breaks), a programme which happens between each edition of the Triennale event. The aim is to create an incubator to support emergent projects as well as to ensure a regular programme in the field of the creative sector (focusing on architecture, urbanism, and design-based disciplines) that includes the participation of several national and international partners.Imbued with a spirit of public service, the Lisbon Triennale is committed to its mission of advancing reflection, knowledge and dissemination in the realm of contemporary architecture. The Lisbon Triennale strives to uphold the highest standard in the work it carries out, while mirroring and highlighting the excellence of Portuguese architectural practice, which, in addition to being recognised worldwide, is a strategic activity for Portugal.The Lisbon Architecture Triennale has therefore attained the official recognition of cultural relevance of its events, the High Patronage of the President of the Republic and the recognition of the status of public utility. Since its activity has relied on funding from many patrons and various public and private partners. This mark of institutional and government support is extremely important.
