In Litija, a town which is located approximately 30 km from the capital city of Slovenia, there are two elementary schools. Gradec Elementary School is one of those two schools, which is formed of the main school and its 4 branch schools (Hotič, Vače, Kresnice and Jevnica). In 3 of the school branches classes are held for pupils in years 1 - 5 (for pupils aged 6 - 11), whereas Vače is a branch with a nine-year educational program for pupils aged 6 - 14; meaning this year, 706 pupils are enrolled in the Gradec Elementary School. Pupils at our school mainly come from rural areas, but we also have a lot of foreign students. The school employs (?) teachers, experts in their fields, who work very hard for the welfare of every student. Our pupils are developing their skills in sports, technology, science, music - art and other social sciences fields. In addition to regular lessons, the school also offers students many extracurricular activities; from activities that are carried out weekly on school premises to multi-day school in nature in various parts of Slovenia (organized by CŠODs - Centers for School and Outdoor Education). At the school, students are learning 2 foreign languages: English as a compulsory foreign language for all students (learning starting from year 1 onwards); but they can also learn German as an elective language (as an extracurricular activity in years 1 - 3, as non-elective language in years 4 - 6 and as a compulsory foreign language in years 7 - 9).
Various projects are taking place at our school in parallel with the lessons. We are proud to say, the Gradec Elementary School has many school-related, as well as international projects, including the European Volunteers Project since 2008. The school also participates in international E-twinning projects, and in the academic year of 2018/19, the school also carried out an international student exchange in Romania as part of the international project Experience Erasmus +. The school's vision is to offer a quality educational process, a safe environment, a pleasant and creative atmosphere, opportunities to promote the individual and the development of team spirit. Informal involvement of a volunteer from a foreign country in school in the classroom helps to develop a healthy attitude towards diversity, other cultures, development of communicational skills and empathy.
