Kolping Society of Portugal (OKP) was founded in 1986 and operates in four dioceses (Bragança, Vila Real, Lamego and Portalegre), forming 30 groups called Kolping Families and has 1600 members. It is an IPSS - Private Institution of Social Solidarity, a public utility institution, with registration No. 71/89, in the General Directorate of Social Security and Training Entity Certified by DGERT with No. 783. The Kolping Society of Portugal is an Association of Christians, based on the Catholic social doctrine and on the fundamentals of the International Kolping founded by the priest Adolph Kolping, one of the forerunners of the Encyclical "RerumNovarum" and one of the greatest social reformers of the nineteenth century.During 28 years OKP, taking into account the social milieu and the respective partnerships at national level with public and private entities, focused its action in the social field, social support to aged people, children and young people and disadvantaged families at risk of exclusion, in vocational training and cultural, recreational and religious areas. Members organized into families are constituted as voluntary groups, faithful to the ideals of the founder, being of service of man and society. Due to the national coverage of OKP, these groups of volunteers consisting mainly of young people, constitute themselves as fundamental in the implementation of OKP objectives and concrete actions for each department. Objectives of the OKP:- Expand the Ideal and work of Adolph Kolping;- Encourage the training of the people, for the purpose of self development;- Develop the principles of solidarity and subsidiarity;- Defend the Family as vital cell of society, contributing to its formation:- To sensitize the population to act in society as active elements, coming both pubic and private levels, to building a more humane and fairer world;- Promote concrete actions of solidarity with the most deprived populations including housing, health and support for the older people and children.The Kolping Society has four departments: Social, Cultural and Religious Department; Department of Vocational Training; Professional Integration Office; Department of General and Administrative Services.The Social, Cultural and Religious Department provides the following services: - social responses of Home Care Services and Day Centre, protocoled with the Social Security; - attendance and assistance to people in need; - survey and monitoring of cases of poverty; -distribution of food and participation in food raising campaigns, and it's noteworthy that in 2014 the OKP received 4 010,50 kg of food that were distributed by an average of 38 families / month; - the Sponsors Mainz project - since 1991 supporting 90 children / young people at risk of exclusion and school leaving; -social canteen; -preparation and promotion of cultural and religious activities conducted by Families / Kolping Groups.Department of Vocational Training- certified entity by DGERT in the following areas of training: 222 - Foreign Languages and Literatures; 482- Hardware in User optics; 621- Agricultural and Animal Production; 762 - Guidance and Social Work; 812 - Tourism and Leisure; 815- Beauty Care. The OKP develops financed training programs since 1990 and performs the following:- registration and selection of trainees according to pre- defined profiles : - development of vocational training actions; - certification of young people and adults; - reduction of the deficit of educational and professional qualifications in the region.
