German Board-Games Museum (Deutsche SPIELEmuseum) was founded in 1986 in Hamburg. In 1995 the German Board-Games Museum moved to Chemnitz right next to the solaris technology and Business Park and enhanced cultural life in Chemnitz. The Solaris Foundation took over the museum with its collection including the premises in 2011. The German Board-Games Museum might be the first museum dedicated to board games in the world. It is a lively place, which sustains the acceptance of games as cultural asset, shows its variety and provides space for active communication between generations and cultures in playing. Basically museum´s work focuses on the following activities: collecting, preserving, exploring, documentation, exhibiting and conveying, according to the museums standards by German museum network. The collection of games includes over 40.000 historic objects of the last 10 centuries, which are classified in epochs (Biedermeier and Jugendstil games, games of World War I and II etc.), topics (love, death, economy, religion, sports, fashion, nature, animals, road and rail etc.) and national origin. Besides board games, the collection also includes all kinds of playing materials (card games, puzzles, automats etc.), literature dealing with games, catalogues, graphics and playing cards.Visitors are welcome to check out over 2.700 traditional, actual and virtual games in the museums games room. Regularly taking place thematic workshops, games promotions, contests and many other activities. Besides the regular museum establishment, the German Board-Games Museum runs various projects and exhibitions such as: „American Games“- 2013 in Chemnitz; touring exhibition „Was EUropa wirklich verbindet: DIE SPIELE“ exhibition of 30 vitrines showing games of 30 EU-nations / EU-applicants- 2012 in Landtag of Saxony/Dresden; „NACHGEMACHT – Spielekopien aus der DDR“ 2012 in Chemnitz; national and international touring exhibition „Spielend lernen“ shows around 600 educational games for people of all ages around Europe; Grundtvig-Workshop „Lern-SPIEL-Welten“; frequent playing-games events at children´s hospital in Chemnitz – volunteers play games with young patients at oncologic section, ongoing since 2010.The aims of our activities consist in promoting youth welfare as well as establishment and maintenance of our institution. Accordingly, we are engaged in archiving and documentation of European games and the construction of an available virtual Archive, which is available for the scientific interdisciplinary research.We are an open minded organization supporting tolerance and integration. We’re therefore open to people with different social, political, ethnic, educational or religious backgrounds. All volunteers will be integrated and will be treated as full team members. Beside common work we’re also spent some other time together. We celebrate birthdays or Christmas time, have teambuilding days or attend to other community activities holding the team straight. For all interested volunteers our intangible goals are an invitation of self-reliance, reflecting, critical and reflective thinking and acting, tolerance, equality, avoidance of conflicts, integrations and interdisciplinary learning.We are looking for young and motivated people, who are team players and who are reliable and adaptable, with different social, political, ethnic, educational or religious backgrounds. The volunteer will be integrated and will be treated as team members by working, but also by spending free time together (birthdays, teambuilding or community activities). For all interested volunteers our intangible goals are an invitation of self-reliance, reflecting, critical and reflective thinking and acting, tolerance, equality, avoidance of conflicts, integration and intergenerational communication. We stick to the conditions for work safety, to which we strictly abide. In our organization, we have experience concerning volunteer activities and along the last years we have offered the possibility for Voluntary services and the Federal German voluntary service. So far the young people could receive a view of the working life and getting the chance to acquire additional social competences.
