Al Makassed Established in Beirut more than a century ago in 1878 AD, Makassed philanthropic Islamic association is a non-profit NGO seeking to create a distinct Makassed community based on high values, proud of its national affiliation. Makassed works with humanitarian principles in order to develop the capabilities of its society and the education of its generations.

Al Makassed Vision is inspired by the founders' vision. It is committed to deal with the social and health care of the human and the preservation of his dignity. It prepares Philanthropic projects and programs, and provides reliable channels to donate. The Association is characterized by its deep communication with the community and responding to its needs, and provide the best levels of quality and proficiency. Makassed achieves its mission through modern and renewable management and the development of its human resources within the framework of a developed culture based on Makassed vision.
- MAKASSED MISSION
Makassed is a charitable humanitarian organization that aims at developing the human being and enabling him/her to build a country and cope with modernization through knowledge and faith. It also aims at raising society through educational, social and health care.
Makassed aim is to develop citizens proud of their nationality, encompassing tolerance, respect for others, and social responsibility. To reach its goal Makassed operates through the following sectors:

2. 2. Education Sector:Although Makassed’s vision and activities have broadened over the decades, its initial commitment to education remains central to its work.

Makassed has broadened its reach in the field of education, having established four post-secondary institutions under the umbrella of Makassed Beirut University:
- • the College for Islamic Studies,
- • Makassed College of Nursing and Health Services,
- • Abdel Hadi Debs Vocational and Training Center, and the
- • Makassed Teacher Training College.
More than 800 students are enrolled in these institutions.

6. Support for Syrian Refugees
In response to the influx of Syrian refugees into Lebanon which began in 2011, the MHCB established the Emergency and Relief Program. This extended the efforts of the mobile medical unit program to reach Syrian refugees in Beirut, the Bekaa and the north. Providing social and educational support as well as attending to transportation, nutrition and health needs, to more than 27,000 Syrian refugees.
Makassed VOLUNTEERS UNIT
The Makassed volunteers unit was first established in 2001 to oversee youth affairs and activate their role within their society.The goal of the volunteer Unit is to build a skillful volunteer, who believes in the importance of serving his community. The unit is directly responsible for the non- formal learning of high school and college students in Makassed Association, and it manages the activities of six volunteer clubs in different Makassed schools.
In addition to the above mentioned activities, the unit is the main coordinator of the community service project implemented by the Ministry of Education, and it handles the community service hours and requirements for graduation of all students in the four Makassed high schools based in Beirut. On another note, the Unit has recently received an EVS accreditation that will reinforce the unit’s participation in the EUROMED YOUTH program, and enhance the existing network with European and MENA NGOs.
