Die Internationalen Jugendgemeinschaftsdienste (ijgd) sind ein gemeinnütziger Verein für internationale Jugendarbeit und politische Bildung. Die ijgd wurde nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg im Jahr 1949, mit der Hoffnung zum anhaltenden Frieden beizutragen, von einer Gruppe von Schüler*innen und Lehrer*innen als unabhängige Jugendorganisation gegründet. Seither agiert der Verein bundesweit als anerkannter freier Träger in der politischen und ökologischen Bildungsarbeit auf nationaler wie internationaler Ebene, darunter auch dem Europäischen Solidaritätskorps.
Als Verein ist ijgd Mitglied des DPW - Deutscher Paritätischer Wohlfahrtsverband, des IJAB – internationaler Jugendaustausch und Besucherdienst der Bundesrepublik Deutschland und des AdB – Arbeitskreis deutscher Bildungsstätten sowie der Gesellschaft für internationale und politische Bildung. Außerdem ist ijgd aktives Mitglied bei der “Alliance of European Voluntary Service Organisations”.
Das Hauptziel der Arbeit von ijgd ist, das Bewusstsein junger Menschen für die gesellschaftlichen Verhältnisse sowie interkulturelles und internationales Lernen zu stärken. Sie werden angeregt, eigenverantwortlich Entscheidungen zu treffen oder sich für (benachteiligte) gesellschaftliche Gruppen einzusetzen. Dazu gehört auch die Förderung des Verständnisses und der Abbau von Vorurteilen zwischen Angehörigen verschiedener Nationen, sozialer Schichten, Religionen und Weltanschauungen. Neben dem internationalen und interkulturellen Austausch und Lernen setzt sich die ijgd hauptsächlich für die non-formale Bildung von Jugendlichen, für Gendergerechtigkeit, nachhaltige Entwicklung und soziale Inklusion ein.
Die ijgd organisieren internationale Workcamps, Jugendbegegnungen und Freiwilligendienste innerhalb und außerhalb Europas. Dabei ist ijgd einer der ältesten Organisationen, die internationale Workcamps in Deutschland durchführt. Innerhalb Deutschlands werden neben den Workcamps auch Langzeit-Freiwilligendienste organisiert, mit Schwerpunkt im sozialen, ökologischen, politischen und denkmalpflegerischen Bereich. Im Europäischen Solidaritätskorps (ESK) ist ijgd sowohl als unterstützende und koordinierende Organisation aktiv.
Neben der Planung, Durchführung und Unterstützung der Projekte ist ein weiterer Schwerpunkt unserer Arbeit die Vorbereitung/ Nachbereitung, Aus- und Fortbildung in Seminaren von ehrenamtlichen Gruppen- und Seminarleiter*innen bzw. Teamer*innen. Die Gruppenleiter*innen, Trainer*innen und Freiwilligen werden durch ijgd ausgebildet bzw. auf ihren Einsatz vorbereitet, wofür das ganze Jahr über Ausbildungs- und Vorbereitungsseminare durchgeführt werden. Die Trainings und Erfahrungen als Jugendleiter*innen können auch als Praktikum für Pädagogische Studien angerechnet werden.

The ijgd is a non-profit organization for international youth work and is active in the field of international youth exchange and political education. The ijgd was founded after the second world war 1949 as an independent organization, by a group of young teachers and students, political and ecological sector on the national level as well as within the European Solidarity to contribute to the continuing peace.

The ijgd is a member of the DPW - Deutscher Paritätischer Wohlfahrtsverband, the IJAP - international youth exchange and “Besucherdienst” of the republic of Germany and of the AdB. Also ijgd is an active member of the “Alliance of European Voluntary Service Organizations”.

The main goals ijgd approaches are to strengthen young people's awareness for social affairs and social responsibilities and to pursue intercultural and international learning. Further, the organization wants to contribute to the reduction of prejudices and presumptions between people of different nations, social relations, religions and political opinions. Topics ijgd is most active in, apart from international volunteering and intercultural learning, are teenage education, gender equality, sustainable development and social inclusion.

The ijgd organizes international workcamps, youth exchange programmes and voluntary services in Europe and overseas and is one of the oldest organizations, carrying out international workcamps in Germany. Besides workcamps ijgd organizes long term voluntary services in the European Solidarity Corps (ESC) where ijgd operates as a coordinating as well as a supporting and hosting organization.

While ijgd plans, operates and supports all projects, the organization also focuses on preparation/post-processing as well as trainings and seminars for volunteers and youth leaders. The youth leaders, trainers and volunteers are thoroughly prepared and trained by ijgd throughout the year. The trainings and experiences as a leader can also be accepted as an internship for pedagogical studies.
