Alliance was registered as a non-governmental organization (NGO) in August of 1998 in Donetsk, Ukraine to be actively involved at economic, social and political changes in Ukraine. The staff and volunteers of Alliance have a broad range of skills and talents, ranging from certified professional trainers versed in topics such as media strategy and journalism, entrepreneurship and leadership to accomplished researchers, financial planners, and networking experts. Alliance is made up of a professional staff (5 employees), volunteers (about 12), a roster of trainers (8), and a network of organizations and partners across Europe. Alliance mission is to support economic, social and political changes in Ukraine through the advancement of youth human rights, equality, freedom of expression, and economic development. This is an integral part of the process of democratization of Ukraine. To fulfil its mission, Alliance has developed a Youth Support Centre with four main parts: 1. NGO Leaders Centre, which supports NGO staff and volunteers in order to increase the effectiveness of the NGO community; 2. Business Centre, which trains unemployed and underemployed youth on business skills and entrepreneurship;3. Information Centre, which provides: database of youth organizations in Ukraine, contacts/networking via internet, library, distribution of brochures and promotion materials about all the above centres and projects, translation of useful foreign resources, and distribution of translated books and magazines. 4. Centre of European Voluntarism – program, which includes a database of volunteers from all around the Ukraine.Alliance actively works within youth field and implements programs aim to youth personal and professional development, raising youth activism and involvement at the decision making process:- Improving youth involvement in social activism. - Developing student and youth organizations. To empower local youth, training events, open spaces, and round tables are carried out with the goal of strengthening and developing student and youth organizations, primarily student governments at universities. Thanks to this project Student governments became a powerful tools for protecting youth and student rights, advocating on their behalf, and political and social activism. - Youth Support Systems: Alliance actively encourages the exchange of training and information schemes by participating in trainings and conferences, as well as maintaining a training database and resource center for youth and volunteers NGOs.- European Cooperation: Since its founding, Alliance has been integrated into the community of European youth policy makers and has organized, encouraged, and participated in numerous exchanges, trainings, and cooperative efforts. Centre of European Voluntarism, established and administrated by Alliance is an important component of the program.The activities and projects mentioned above are really great learning opportunities for any EVS volunteer who can join to the events upon their wish.
