Volkshochschule im Landkreis Cham e.V. (VHS Cham) is a registered, non-profit association in the Upper Palatinate, Bavaria. Within this educational institution about 70 employees and 300 freelancers work together to provide courses focusing on different fields like society, vocation, health (including sustainability and sports), languages and culture, as well as courses for special target groups. Moreover, VHS Cham is also connected with several vocational schools and offers workshops for wood and metal work. A great part of the activities is directed towards young people, unemployed persons and migrants.

Additionally, VHS Cham takes a leading role with regards to planning and implementing transnational projects within Erasmus+ and Interreg. Due to the fact that the institution has been coordinating many European projects since 2004, the team has a clear expertise in the management and execution of large-scale multilateral activities. Most of the past and current projects focus on second language learners, vulnerable groups, voluntary work, as well as guidance and recognition of competences. Working with more than 75 institutions in nearly all countries of the European Union, as well as Turkey, Belarus or Palestine for example, VHS proves its international orientation.

VHS Cham is open to anybody interested in taking part in the European Voluntary Service Programme. Possible departments for volunteering activities would be the international projects department where interested volunteers can assume a variety of different tasks (e.g. research, designing and testing learning materials with target groups, international cooperational aspects) and get hands-on experience in supporting the development and implementation of European projects. Another possibility would be to support the department of vocational training and further education in designing courses and events for people with special needs. During their stay at VHS Cham volunteers also have the chance to get insights into other departments of the educational institution.
