Opis organizácie

UG Interkulturni susreti u BiH is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation that promotes intercultural learning through exchange, hosting and voluntary programs. In cooperation with AFS Intercultural Programs, UG ISU BiH has been cooperating and successfully been performing its work for 15 years. UG ISU BiH prepares and activates future leaders, global citizens and change makers using essential 21st century tools for promoting intercultural skills to engage, lead and collaborate effectively in different cultural settings. Our international exchange programs consist of a three-month program and one year program where students have the opportunity to spend that time in a different country, learn the local language, attend a local school and learn about the local culture. In the context of our 15-year tradition, UG ISU BiH has sent 232 students abroad and has welcomed and hosted 75 students from over 15 countries. Besides sending and hosting programs, our organisation contains a large vast of volunteers worldwide which adds up to over 15 000 registered volunteers, whereas in UG ISU BiH we have a number of 140 registered volunteers and 150 ALUMNI members. In the context of volunteer work, our volunteers engage in different workshops and volunteer based activities on the topic of various events. On a yearly basis, UG ISU BiH hosts 11 events intended for hosting and sending students which include the following:

Hosting:

1. Arrival camp - welcoming hosting students (September)
2. Late orientation camp – first impressions from hosting students (November)
3. Departure camp - goodbye camp for students staying for three months (December)
4. Mid stay camp – for students impressions after half way through their exchange (March) 5. End of
stay camp – goodbye camp for students staying on a one year program (July)

Sending:

1. Semi-final selection camp – selecting students to send abroad (January)
2. Final selection camp – awarding selected students their destinations of exchange (February)
3. First preparatory camp – meeting with parents + students (April)
4. Main preparatory camp – preparing students for what awaits them abroad (May)
5. Second preparatory camp – final meeting with parents + students before departure (August)
6. Reorientation camp – upon return of students, they are taught how to reintegrate into their societies
(January & September)

These activities are known as our “core” activities in the organisation. Besides them, our volunteers have the opportunity to attend a training for volunteers twice a year (March and November). We also have a yearly training for volunteer members of our BiHPOT (BiH Pool of Trainers) where trainers have the chance to renew their trainee skills and train each other. On a yearly basis, an average number of our volunteers who attend trainings, seminars and study sessions abroad includes a minimum number of 3-4 volunteers per year.
