Opis organizácie

Oceanus is a non-profit NGO registered in Italy with head office in Rome that mainly focuses on promoting and developing research projects aiming at the preservation of ecosystems and environments, as well as the protection of the aquatic species under increasing threat. Oceanus also looks at the different interactions between humans and animals, and has a wide range of international cooperation projects.

Oceanus’ mission is:
-to promote their social and personal development through international volunteer programmes
-to promote intercultural understanding, equality of opportunity and peace among people in the world
-to provide challenging intercultural learning experiences for young people

Target Groups
Oceanus volunteering programmes are open to all walks of life and age. No prior experience is required, and only the motivation to face the challenge of being confronted with something new, and to learn more about themselves and the world they live in.

Main Activities:
Long-term Voluntary Service
The mainstay of Oceanus' activities is the promotion and organisation of worldwide long-term voluntary service.
These exchanges aim to provide intercultural learning experiences, encouraging social and occupational integration and supporting the development of local community projects. The emphasis of this experience is on promoting international voluntary service as a meaningful alternative to addressing social and educational needs of today’s people. It aims to heighten young people’s sensitivity towards social and cultural differences, their self-confidence and problem solving abilities.

Short-term Voluntary Service
Oceanus organises short-term voluntary service such as individual volunteer placements and work camps dealing with community development activities, projects to encourage recycling, environmental protection, group study visits, language courses and cultural exposure activities.
