Gefangene helfen Jugendlichen e.V. has been a registered association since 2001 and has been recognized as a provider of free youth welfare services since 2005.
Our work has two pillars:
We prevent the criminal careers of adolescents from confronting the everyday life of prisoners and the biographies of (former) detainees.
We support prisoners in their reintegration into society by being able to take action with us.
Prisoners help young people e.V. is a recognized provider of child and youth welfare services based in Hamburg and offers violence and crime prevention projects for already delinquent or vulnerable young people between the ages of 10 and 21, which are carried out directly by (former) detainees.
Visiting inmates aims to foster a conversation between delinquent youth and selected, responsible inmates who regret their actions. The prison visit and the confrontation with the biographies of the inmates should reach the thoughts on the life planning and conception of the young people. It is intended to cause irritation in the stereotypes and stereotypes of young people of crime, prison, and violence. It is food for thought. The young people themselves have to think and act.
Strong cooperation partners, reliable supporters and a stable team made it possible for us to reach more than 5,000 young people by attending penitentiaries and more than 11,500 pupils through preventive education. In recent years, GhJ is working to extend the project to other locations. This work is already successful at locations in Bremen, Hanover, and NRW.
