Obchodná akadémia (Business academy) in Dolný Kubín has a long history of providing business education for secondary students building on a long-term tradition of business schooling in Orava region. Teachers draw a sizeable proportion to innovative and experience methods of teaching and thanks to modern technology and equipment at our school students get high-standard education. They are expected to be creative, tolerant, cooperative but even critical to life around. Students can do different sports not only at PE lessons but also after the lessons in their free time they can play volleyball, floorball or they can go to the gym. Its main priorities are the increase of students media literacy and their active participation in school life and community life. Our business school sets the priority to prepare its students for life. Therefore one of the key elements of the practical preparation of our students is a subject a training firm (fictitious firm). It uses alternative teaching methods such as simulation and staging method. The projects in the field of global education are to provide students with experiences and information which can help them to develop their critical awareness of the social, environmental, economic and political processes in the world. In the past, our students actively participated in various competitions, for example artistic, economic expert, or sport ones. In many of them, we have achieved considerable success both at the national as well as global level. Almost all students who finish the study at our school are determined to improve their qualifications by studying at universities. They are interested in studying not only economics but also other fields. Our school also provides accommodation in a nearby dormitory which is in one building with a canteen.
