Das Zentrum für Umwelt und Kultur Benediktbeuern e.V. (ZUK) im restaurierten barocken Maierhof des Klosters Benediktbeuern ist ein modernes Bildung- und Gästezentrum mit der besonderen Atmosphäre des 300-jährigen ehemaligen klösterlichen Landwirtschaftsgebäudes. Am Nordrand der Alpen liegt es unmittelbar benachbart zu den Loisach-Kochelsee-Mooren.

Von den Salesianern Don Boscos 1988 gegründet, leistet die Ordensgemeinschaft mit dem ZUK einen wichtigen Beitrag zur Schöpfungsverantwortung, gemäß dem Leitsatz des Klosters „Jugend, Schöpfung, Bildung - heute für morgen“. Bildungs-und Kulturangebote sollen Kindern, Jugendlichen und Erwachsenen die Wertschätzung und den Einsatz für das Leben in seiner ganzen Vielfalt vermitteln. Auf dem Klosterland werden Modellprojekte des Biotop- und Artenschutzes umgesetzt. Klima- und Hochwasserschutz sowie der Erhalt wertvoller Moore sind dabei ein besonderes Anliegen.

Jährlich nehmen ca. 15.000 Kinder und Jugendliche und 6000 Erwachsene an unserem hochaktuellen Bildungsprogramm teil. Dabei nehmen wir auch Menschen in den Blick, die am Rande der Gesellschaft stehen und führen Projekte mit sozial auffälligen Kindern und Jugendlichen und mit jungen Sozialdienstleistenden durch.
In unserem Bildungsteam arbeiten engagierte Mitarbeiter aus verschiedenen Fachbereichen, die jährlich ein hochaktuelles Programm erstellen. Die Veranstaltungen finden im historischen Maierhof und im Naturlehrgebiet mit seinen vielzähligen Lehrpfaden und Erlebnisbiotopen statt.

Im Modellprojekt „Klosterland“ werden die Flächen des Klosters renaturiert und wissenschaftlich begleitet. Flächen sind z.T. an Landwirte verpachtet, die sie extensiv bewirtschaften. Für die Verwaltung der Flächen sind im Naturschutzbüro des ZUK zwei Mitarbeiter beschäftigt.


The „Zentrum für Umwelt und Kultur e.V“ (ZUK), located in the restored baroque Maierhof, a part of the abbey of Benediktbeuern, is a modern educational centre and guest house with the particular atmosphere of a 300 years old abbey. It is located in the northern alpine region and close to the Loisach-Kochelsee moor.
It has been founded in 1988 by the Salesians of Don Bosco, a religious order who intends to give through the activities of the ZUK a contribution in the field of nature conservation, following the guiding principle “Youth, creation, education – today for tomorrow”. Educational and cultural activities for children, young people and adults have a focus on commitment for life in all its variety. The centre coordinates in the region different projects in the conservation of biotopes and species. A particular concern is the climate protection and flood prevention, as well as the conservation of valuable moors.
Every year around 15.000 children and young people and 6000 adults take part in the programme activities of the centre. We focus also on those people who are emarginated in the society and implement projects for social disadvantaged children and youngsters, as well for young people who need to carry out community service.
In our team we have committed staff members from different sectors, who offer every year different programme activities. The activities take place in the historical Maierhof and in the protected area, with its nature trails and biotopes.
In the frame of the project “Klosterland” we restore and coordinate scientifically different areas of the region around the abbey. These areas are let for rent to farmers. The ZUK has in its office two staff members, taking care of the administration of these areas.
