The Przestrzenie Foundation was established in July 2017. Its goals are focused on promoting the concept of Nonviolent Communication and Free Education. One of the most important activities of the Foundation is running the Free Space School in Krakow launched in September 2018. In addition, from the beginning of its existence, the Foundation directs its activities to parents who have decided on Home Education by running the project "Five from ED". As part of this project, he supports such families, especially in caring for the social and emotional development of children.
FREE SCHOOL OF SPACE - VISION AND CHARACTERISTICS
alternative education and democratic / libertarian schools
The main project of the Foundation (to which we also want to invite ECS volunteers) is the Free School of Space. It is a place of alternative, non-system education for children taught outside school, inspired by the idea of unschooling, democratic education and Non-Violent Communication (NVC). We rely on the idea of free schools, which was founded almost 100 years ago in Great Britain (the first free school is Summerhill founded in 1921). We draw on the experience of other free and democratic schools in Poland and around the world.
Each free school is a bit different, but their common features are:
the right of children to decide about themselves: how they will spend time at school, what, when and how they will learn,
building a community full of mutual respect, paying attention to relationships,
treating everyone subjectively,
care for the well-being of both the child and adults,
the real impact of everyone who creates this community on school rules.
At Wolna Szkoła Szkoła Przestrzennie, we want to create a community in which each member (child, parent, staff) has a specific impact on school rules. We base our relations on freedom and codecision; we believe that man learns faster and more effectively by his own will and willingness, he also eagerly works with others. We also want to show that the restriction of the freedom of one person is related to the freedom of the other, which is next door.
The ground on which the school is based is PERSONALISM, which is a philosophical direction, emphasizing the special value of the concept of "person", focused on the autonomous value of personality. The basic idea is human dignity and the fact that we have a constant opportunity to become an ever better version of ourselves, and this process continues throughout our lives. We can always go a step further in development and we have the potential to do so. Each of us becomes a man according to his own idea, because each person is unique. It is very important that the development process takes place within very clearly marked limits set by values. In our school, we also want our activities to always have the good of everyone who is a member of the community in mind.
Children who are part of such a community are often participants or witnesses of serious conversations and decisions. They see that you can talk about everything, including difficult matters.
Guided by the idea of free schools, in our school we want to trust the child, follow his interests and possibilities, inspire and support in learning, not impose a predetermined program and pace of work, as well as leave space for free fun.
